I guess I'm not the only one who watches EVERYTHING with closed caption on.

I don't use the closed captions but I do realize I can't understand the dialog in many cases. This video explains it well. Hope the producers take note.

We do it too—including the teenager in residence, especially with British imports. And we have a very decent audio system.

I use CC when watching any movie or series I'm interested in. When the dialog goes fast, I'll rewind and stop action to make sure I understand what is being said.

And further more, I think CC on your TV and the lack of intelligible dialog in movies is hurting the theater business. Why pay $15 to see a movie you can't understand, when it'll be on TV soon, and the popcorn is cheaper.

As an aside, when watching foreign TV series on Netflix, if they are dubbed in English, you lose some of the emotion, but you can understand the dialog much better.

We usually watch in original language with subtitles. With the smattering of French and Italian and Spanish between us, we can capture the gist of the dialog and also catch the mistranslations (sometimes).
Of course, if the film is in Russian, Finnish, Arabic, Hebrew, Swedish or German, all bets are off.
ON EDIT: And Mandarin, naturally.

When I watched Deliverance, I understood everything perfectly, but I am fluent in Hillbilly. Oppenheimer gave me a bit more trouble.

What I need is a closed-caption panel for Fiddlerina.
Or I could just get new hearing aids.

I've heard all that before, but this is the first time I've seen it all in one place.
We usually have CC on, and notice when the auto-captioning software gets it wrong.

I was just thinking that CC captioning would help clear up some of the confusion on this forum. Mods, what think you?

I have the same problem with some audiobooks. If only there were a way for me to read what is being said.

Captions distract me so much that I can't pay attention to anything else, so I leave them off and do the best I can with the audio.

Scenes from the interstate, circa 2012. From the backseat: "mom, I'm feeling carsick." Mom looks at the media screen, realizes the captions are on. "Just don't read the captions." "I can't NOT read them!"

In 1969 I watched The Graduate in a movie theater in Madrid. It was the English-language version with Spanish subtitles. The audience laughed at funny lines before the lines had been spoken.

Don, That must have been so annoying.
I went to the cinema to see "Yellow Submarine," in Haifa in 1971. Original English language with Hebrew subtitles. I was the only one laughing.
