Como Zoo, half a mile from my place, recently welcomed their first nyala calf, 8 pounds at birth and standing in a little over a half-hour. It's an antelope species from southern Africa -- males are known for their spiral-shaped horns. No name yet -- Como typically does a contest where they solicit suggestions. On edit, it's a girl!

She is a kudu. When she grows up she's going to be beautiful, and a member of one of the largest animal species. A lovely creature. I love Como Zool First a baby giraffe and now this, what is next?
