Associated Press excerpt
MANCHESTER, N.H. — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended his Republican presidential campaign on Sunday, ending his 2024 White House bid just before the New Hampshire primary while endorsing his bitter rival Donald Trump.
The decision leaves Trump and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley as the last major candidates remaining in the race ahead of Tuesday's New Hampshire primary. This is the scenario Trump's foes in the GOP have long sought, raising the stakes for this week's contest as the party's last chance to stop the former president who has so far dominated the race.
But as some Trump critics cheered, DeSantis nodded toward Trump's primary dominance — and attacked Haley — in an exit video he posted on social media.
''It's clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance,'' DeSantis said in the straight-to-camera video, delivered in a cheerful tone.
He continued: ''I signed a pledge to support the Republican nominee and I will honor that pledge. He has my endorsement because we can't go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear, a repackaged form of warmed-over corporatism that Nikki Haley represents.''
Haley spoke at a campaigning stop in Seabrook, New Hampshire, just as DeSantis announced his decision.
''He ran a great race, he's been a good governor, and we wish him well,'' she told a room packed with supporters and media. ''Having said that, it's now one fella and one lady left.''

Now we know who we have to support to defeat Trump. I will do so reluctantly and hopefully. May the best lady win.

OMG, I am so hoping Haley does well in New Hampshire. I am not a big fan, but she is certainly my choice among Biden, Trump and Haley.

We get to choose between two old men. I'll take the one who didn't try to overthrow the government.

Time to add "None Of The Above" as a ballot option.

I'll take the one who's in favor of fighting for our actual Constitutional government and is good enough to make it happen.
Go Trump!

I’m for Haley if for knowing she’s easy on the eyes when I’m dealing with politics.

Sue and I just booked a get-away week trip for late February. My Christmas present to her. Fun in the sun, so to speak. We chose CA instead of FL. Florida is crowded with tourists that time of year. Sue suggested San Diego. But secretly I don't want to support the economy of the state that is run by DeSantis.

Pleased to report that the voters of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire voted unanimously for Nikki Haley.
As discussed in another thread, the primary voting system is hopelessly screwed up. A tiny minority of primary voters decide the major party presidential candidates. By the time the primary elections are in states such as Michigan, there is no choice and our votes are meaningless.

At first I was copping a holier-than-thou attitude about the petty no-Trump-no-matter-what sentiments.
Then I realized I have a no-Biden-no-matter-what attitude.
Oh well.

But not any more. Maybe in 2028 when we'll have no incumbents. Strangely enough we have 2 incumbents running this time. And strangely nowadays being an incumbent is a negative rather than a positive. And, like I said, we have 2 incumbents with considerable baggage running.

Well Haley is toast. But I suppose she and DeSantis are really just setting themselves up for 2028 at this point.
The MSNBC folks (Sue had it on) are calling Biden the big winner (over Trump) based on historical presidents in NH primary voting. I think they are wishful dreaming, though. I don't think NH is a harbinger of much of anything. Nice place I'm sure (as is Iowa), but the battlegrounds are WI, MI, PA, GA. Maybe AZ & CO.
This is going to be a barn burner through November (and who knows maybe next January). Get out you asbestos underwear and pop some popcorn.

I should add that Iowa is 31st in population and New Hampshire is 42nd.

As pointed out in another thread, the only thing standing between us and economic disaster is confidence in our system. And as evidenced by our choice of candidates, we have a system in which no thinking man has confidence.

OTOH, what about the non-thinking persons, who do seem to have confidence...?
