But no. I tuned in just as the 49ers were turning things around.

Detroit receivers can’t catch the ball. That and a fumble and they’re giving it away.

Detroit receivers can’t catch the ball. That and a fumble and they’re giving it away. Two horrible go for it on fourth decisions and a fluke bounce off the defender's helmet, which bounced into SF's hands and led to a touchdown.

Poor Detroit.
The Ghost of Detroit Past rose up in the second half and chained the doomed Lions to their history.
(but, they have a team that be in the mix for several years)

Fourth and two, in short FG range, and macho coach calls for a go-for-it, which fails. Sigh ...

First 4th down, the receiver dropped a perfect pass. 2nd 4th down attempt is on the coach. Kick the friicken field goal.

Though you have to give the game ball to Brock Purdy.
Not bad for a #262 draft pick.

24-7 at the half. Looking good... stay the course... oh my... Still, the play of the day had to be Lamar Jackson's 13-yard pass to himself!

Still, missing the Superbowl by 3 points is better than missing the playoffs by 16 games.
They'll be back.
Go Lions!

By the way, what a tough way to make a living. Towards the end of the game the SF running back, McCaffrey, came down on his head at the end of a play. We next saw him on the sidelines, wincing as physical therapy was applied.

Heck of a football state, that Iowa.

Three of the top five tight ends currently playing in the NFL all played for the Iowa Hawkeyes: George Kittle (49ers), T.J. Hockenson (Vikings), and Sam LaPorta (Lions). Hawkeyes all.
Iowa. The "tight end" state.
(next year's license plate)
(and wait till you see Iowa's new flag!)
