All y'all are always teaching me stuff here and I'm grateful for that. We've been talking about Toby Kieth and how some of us, me included, had formed opinions about his music without ever having heard it at all. Well, Taylor Swift is another of those huge stars I've never bothered to listen to. I figured any pop singer who can fill more pages of copy than Donald Trump might not have to be bothered with.
Just a few minutes ago, Taylor Swift's Tiny Desk Concert from four years ago popped up on my YouTube feed. My first thought was that YouTube must not be tracking my interests any longer. But I'm not doing anything important right now (as this post attests) so I decided I'd give her a listen.
So here is Taylor Swift alone. No amps, no laser lights, no dancers, no band, just Taylor and her guitar and piano, talking about and singing her songs in an acoustic format. See what you think.

She looks so much better without that bright red lipstick!
And she sounds ok.

I'd never heard anything by her so I listened to three songs. She's very good. Her subject matter seems a little remote to a guy my age but that's to be expected. She seems bright and pleasant.

Diane tells me that even the grade school kids at our church's school are Taylor Swift fans.

Interesting cross thread stuff. Guess who gave her her first record contract?
Toby Keith.

Eloquent. Talented. Smart. Good role model for girls. And she is quite handsome.
I have not yet heard a song or a statement that creates a touchstone for me, but as flake says, "that is to be expected."

If it weren't for the way Taylor Swift changed the music industry we might never have heard of Carole King, Joni Mitchell, or Carly Simon.

Do I detect a note of sarc'sm in the above post? 😃

"Welcome to my world. I find that statement applies to more & more every day!"
I don't think getting older has made me wise. It has made me cognizant of how foolish we all are.

If it weren't for the way Taylor Swift changed the music industry we people younger than 50 might never have heard of Carole King, Joni Mitchell, or Carly Simon.

"Welcome to my world. I find that statement applies to more & more every day!" I don't think getting older has made me wise. It has made me cognizant of how foolish we all are. The old saying says "Wisdom comes with age." But, for me at least I find age travels alone most of the time.

Just a bit. But I am confirmed in my belief in miracles. I'm watching the resurrection of Toby Keith from death by cancel culture, and suddenly 60year old men like Taylor Swift because there's a narrative circulating that the wrong kind of people don't like her. Poor thing, the way the man has been keeping her down.

Yeah, I checked out their politics and got an okay from George Soros before forming any opinion.

Good grief.
Taylor Swift got the same response here two years ago or whenever it was well before the current whatever the hell angle it is some on the right are working. Big swing, big miss. Tinted lenses.
Well, more than a tint. Not everything for everyone is part of a political war.

I watched part of the video. She definitely has talent. She spoke to a generation (or two) of pubescent girls. Not very versatile or noteworthy beyond that.
I noted when the camera panned the audience it was 90% young women.

Um, Beatlemania? Elvis? (Or Frank Sinatra circa 1942-43, for that matter.)
