My new Subaru is dead set to protect me. The seat belt buzzer goes on when you start the engine and will not go off until you buckle. In fact it quickly gets louder, painfully louder. If you just want to back your car out of the garage to clean it out or are backing it up to hook a trailer you have to buckle up or endure the noise. I found these, called “seat belt extenders” and they do a good job of defeating the system. I

Terry, I feel your pain. On some cars, like my 4Runner and your Subaru, there are ways to shut it off. Here is one you might want to try:

Thanks! I found out another new thing today. I was driving on the freeway and yawned. Immediately there was a warning beep and a message popped up on the screen “stay alert”
I feel so coddled.

The "stay alert" thing is a bit creepy, Terry. How did it know?

My Prius, every once in a while, will present a "picture" of a cup of coffee on the instrument panel with the message, "would you like to take a break?" I believe it's caused by the car wandering within the driving lane, or too many corrections with the steering wheel. Makes me wonder

It is watching you. Not only that, it is selling your travel data. There is no limitation right now on how the smart cars use your data. I believe I saw an article that indicated that California is trying to legislate privacy protections for the sale of such data.

I decided to test the "driver assist" and "navigation" features of my Honda the other day, so I took a little ten minute nap on my way to Warren. Car worked perfectly without me. Woke up with the car sitting patiently outside the school tuned to my favorite radio station. Pretty cool beans!

I tried out all that stuff during a down and back to the cities today Mark. It’s spooky, especially the automatic lane holding. I would tend not to use it all the time on a freeway but it’s really nice to switch on if you have to select a feature on the touch screen and briefly take your eyes off the road. With that and the automatic distance maintaining between vehicles ahead you seem pretty safe taking your eyes off the road briefly.
I don’t think I’ll ever trust it fully. One thing I do really like I’d when the sensors detect a curb when parking the rear view mirrors automatically tilt down so you can see it. Big help parallel parking.

Next big feature: "You want fries with that?" Though for geriatric drivers, it will be modified to "Hey--you know you're not supposed to have fries."

As I said, I don’t like anyone else driving my car. I don’t want a robotic AI automated app driving my car either.

And if you fart it automatically opens all the windows. If the passenger farts it activates their ejection seat.
