Howard’s post in the March 23 daily caused my random access brain to recall this song by Dave Van Ronk. Some background is probably needed. The Van Ronk tune is a parody of a song first recorded by The Original Carter Family long ago called Engine 143. But the first version of the song I ever heard was recorded by Joan Baez in 1961, and that is also where thousands of other young folkies first heard it. Joan’s version is very close to the original but done to modern standards. Suddenly every young folkie was doing this song, so much so that Van Ronk, and audiences in general, quickly tired of hearing it. To express his growing distaste for the tune, Van Ronk recorded this wonderful parody which Howard’s mention of Flatbush brought to mind. Joan’s recording of the original. Van Ronk’s Parody.

Ooh, train wreck songs.
When I was a little boy, I had an insipid book about an insipid little boy and how well behaved he was, and how he always obeyed his mother, and loved going to Sunday School. On the last page it said his favorite song was "Jesus Loves Me," and ended with the question, "What is your favorite song?"
With a crayon I wrote in big round printed letters, "Casey Jones." I don't think the book publishers would accept that as the right answer.

A modern version would be the wreck of the 737-Max.
