Nice weather afternoon yesterday so I took my Larivee OM3 to the park, sat on a bench by the walking path next to the lake and started playing. Folks walked on by as I played, some acknowledging me most looking away as they passed by. Not the kids.....
While I was playing a family came by with three little girls, looked like they were about 2 to 6 or there about. The youngest walked over to me and stood there wide eyed looking at me. The other two came over as well as the dad. The middle girl had picked a handful of daisies and she handed me the bouquet. I don't have kids tunes in my repertoire so I played the Beatles tune "I Will" figuring not a kids tune but safe..... They were fascinated and thanked me when the song was over and they continued on their way.
Nice......

I did a lot of subbing in elementary music, and I always brought my guitar (and a few stories). My most sure fire, popular, awaited and requested song was "Old McDonald"... with a twist...
I would either get the animals and their sounds confused or I would come to a puzzled halt as I couldn't remember what sound the animal made , and the kids couldn't wait to correct me, laughing heartily as I slapped my head "how could I get that one wrong?
... and on his farm he had a cow, ei ei ei oh. with a quack, quack, here and a qua...
NO! Cows go Moo!...
They do? Oh, Fiddle sticks! How did I get that one wrong! It won't happen again... (but it does, and they are waiting for it)

"The Marvelous Toy" is a winner, as well. Wonderful, wonderful song. As is "Puff the Magic Dragon".
(for extra credit, compare and contrast Puff with Jesse the Cowgirl from Toy Story 2. How is their fate different than that of the Marvelous Toy's).

B-I-N-G-O works for some. And for the younger ones, woody Guthrie’s Car Car.

There's a jungle gymn in the park that usually has a lot of kids playing on it. Claire suggested I might learn some kids songs and play there. Then we both thought about it........
