i use quite a bit of religious imagery in my writing, but this takes the biscuit.
***************
kneel to the cross
Give us our bread and bury our dead And kneel to the cross on the wall Whether burnt at the stake or drunk at the wake Just kneel to the cross on the wall We've original sin, but we might just get in If we beg to the cross on the wall It's rattle your neighbours and rattle your sabre But kneel to that cross on the wall.
See the roof fall, hear the bells crash As flesh and bone turns to ash Tried to conquer the sun with a Christian frost The corpses' stench beneath the cross
And give them gold and they'll save your soul And kneel to the cross on the wall And hail to the boss of the great unwashed And kneel to the cross on the wall They wail and weep, the march of the sheep As they go to the cross on the wall And it's ever so wrong to dare to be strong So kneel to the cross on the wall
See the roof fall, hear the bells crash As flesh and bone turns to ash Tried to conquer the sun, with a Christian frost The corpses' stench beneath the cross. And it's ever so wrong to dare, to be strong And it's ever so wrong to dare, to be strong

Connington, I don't think I share your view of religion but I like the song. Some of yours are dense to the point that I'm not getting them. Here I get a clear idea of what you're feeling and you express it powerfully.
I had qualms are about these lines:
"But summer is a-coming and arise! Arise! But summer is a-coming and arise! Arise!"
"Arise" made me think of the Marsellaise. These days, nobody I know would exhort people to arise and it sounds a bit literary, as if the rest came from the heart and that came from the library.
A minor nitpick. Good song.

This one is the strongest tune you've posted IMHO. It's direct and a punch-in-the-gut. I really feel like I understand what you're saying. The constant juxtaposition of the kneel to the cross image is powerful.
The ending lines "And it's ever so wrong to dare, to be strong" confuses me though. I'm waiting for a definite conclusion but that line puts me back out in the wilderness asking what it's supposed to mean.
