Good morning. It would be obvious to post soething about April Fool's Day, but since this will be my last day at my job, I'd like to dedicate this one to my employers.
Oh yeah, and this, too.
I am hoping for a good day, and good times ahead. Sally forth and have a good one.

Good morning. Congratulations to Howard on his retirement.
We had rain yesterday, we had rain during the night and rain is predicted for today. The standard comment about rain here is "we need it." That's always true but I'm ready for a change of weather.
Enjoy your day.

Rained all night and it is still raining. Ugh!
Retire with positive thoughts.
Breakfast awaits.

Oak Creek, 2009. Notice the bare twigs and dead leaves that occupy such a prominent position in the foreground. Today I think I'd reframe the shot to avoid that.

Good morning. First day of the month, I've got bills to pay. Beyond that it's going to be a nice weather day here. I'll bike ride later and do some shopping. Life goes on. Have a great day.

Howard, Congratulations again! This talk of retirement these past weeks got me thinking about my own retirement. I never officially retired because of circumstances at the time. I was 58 when Lar got sick. I left my job to care for him. I didn't take a leave as there were so many hoops to jump through and I just couldn't deal with anything other than being with and caring for him. At that point I had worked full time since I was 18. Thirty plus years as a therapist, 10 years prior to that I juggled being a mommy, going to college and providing respite care to disabled people ( this job allowed me to take my toddler to work with me) and then a musician/band leader since I was 13. I have always worked. My first generation parents instilled that work ethic in their children and it has served me well.
Two weeks after Lar died, the world shut down for COVID. After three months of being at home, I was offered a pool position. I did that for a year. The job I once loved was now a grind. The pandemic made treating patients so difficult that I just didn't want to do it anymore. I am sure my grieving at the time played into this.
It has now been three years since I have practiced as an OT. I find it interesting that when someone asks me what I do for a living, I have never once said I am retired. I don't know if it is because there was no official closure or if it was because it was so unplanned and I was so young. When asked, I am now a musician, artist, horse therapy volunteer, USO volunteer etc. Being productive and contributing to the world as best I can is who I am and is very important to me. There have been a few times when I questioned my decision to leave OT. I have maintained my license to practice just in case.
Last year, Bonny and I played a nursing home show. As we were setting up, I saw one of my former OT coworkers working with a patient. My VERY FIRST THOUGHT was I am so glad I don't have to do that anymore. I have not looked back or questioned my decision since.
Enjoy, Howard. The best is yet to come.

Good morning.
31F-48F cloudy.
Fire inspection this afternoon so I have just a few things to check but otherwise I'm ready. I think a trip to the woodworking store after inspection for bandsaw blades and a browse through their scrap pile. I've found good bridge blanks and string winder wood in that bin, even some Brazilian once.

Every April 1, I am reminded of it being the date, in 2016, of Lonnie's cancer diagnosis. Lord, how I miss that man and his creative genius and his enormous, warm personality.
I learned today that April is International Guitar Month. An excerpt from a blurb by the St. Tammany Parish Library:
The guitar is an instrument that has been essential to music for centuries. While many people think of Spanish music when it comes to early guitar, historians believe that guitar-like instruments date all the way back to the days of ancient Egypt. The Moors are credited for bringing the guitar from Africa to Europe when they invaded Spain in 711 A.D. Spanish guitar maker Antonio de Torres Jurado designed the modern guitar in the late 1800s. In addition, Spanish guitarist and composer Francisco Tarrega developed the modern guitar-playing methods at that time.
Guitar evolved even further in design and music in the 1930s with the development of the electric guitar. Unlike the modern acoustic guitar, which uses the vibration of the strings with the resonant body of the instrument to produce sound, the electric guitar converts the string vibrations to electrical signals. These signals are then converted and shaped through an amplifier, which then produces the sounds through the speaker. Electric guitars typically have dials on the body used to control tone and volume. Some electric guitars feature a tremolo arm, also called vibrato arm or whammy bar, to tighten and loosen strings, creating textured sounds. Early electric guitars had the hollow resonant body of acoustic guitars. The solid body electric guitar design began in 1941 through American guitarist Les Paul. In the 1950s, Paul assisted the Gibson company in designing a popular line of electric guitars. In addition, American inventor Leo Fender also designed many popular electric guitars through the 1940s and 1950s, including the Telecaster and the Stratocaster. Fender’s electric guitar designs and other designs named after Les Paul remain popular today.

Congratulations Howard, look forward Rather than back. I've retired twice, two years after my first retirement, I had started and was running my own business. I received a call from a 3rd party asking me to work for them on a project with the company I'd retired from, they couldn't find anyone who could do what I did.
Easy job, easy money, great people. I took them up on their offer. Then 2 years later, that original company dumped the 3rd party and contracted directly with me. Even easier work and better money.
I contracted with them for 14 years, only quitting when Covid hit. If it wasn't for covid I'd probably still be working with them. It was all very positive, I was lucky.

Sunny with a bit of a chill. Home from my every-other-day workout, made bearable by Irish music.
Dealing with some financial stuff and workshop stuff. Might make some sawdust if Dawn goes out to meet with clients.
Howard - Congratulations on your very last day. Not Working feels weird but the weirdness passes quickly.

What they all said, Howard.
Up, coffeed, Wordled, Connections, all done. Nita’s sister and Bro-in-law leave this afternoon, so we will head head out to Wilma and Freida’s for brunch in a bit. It will be 75° this afternoon so a bike ride is on tap. Tons of leftovers in the fridge so dinner is covered. Tomorrow we will thoroughly clean the condo so we are ready for Nita’s parents to visit on Weds.

Congratulations, Howard. There is not doubt in my mind that you will not be looking back. You'll find a very satisfying was to pass your time.
I loved your post, Concertina girl.
It's cold, rainy and windy here. It's hard to find something to do when I can't play guitar yet. But I'll manage to find something.

I was thinking if Kim were here she would have found PLENTY of things for you to do around the house while you are recovering other than play your guitar. So happy you are back here with us and heading in the right direction.

Congratulations Howard! Good career move. I never regretted retirement but missed the multitude of absolutely amazing people I worked with a great deal. Todd it is so good to see you posting. I had to drive to the cities and back for an audiology appointment today. I was using my new adaptive cruise which keeps you a predetermined distance behind the car ahead of you but resumes the preset speed when you pull out to pass. Of course this often insures a creeping pass. There sure are a lot of folks out there bound and determined to get every pennies worth out of their adaptive cruise.
