I'm not talking about Minnesota Spring driving conditions. I'm talking about an earth shattering development in the guitar pick world. I found laying around one D'Addario Black Ice guitar pick. Musta come with some strings or something else I ordered. It was just laying there on the desk. So, I tried it, and I like it a lot. So much so that I ordered a bunch. Looks like these might be my new go-to pick Nice flexible-stiffness ratio. Nice point for precision picking. (What is that ? ? ?). And the material has a nice "click" and doesn't seem to get scratched and pitted and worn like celluloid. So there.

I think I gave you a couple when you were here for the guitar. I have quite a few of them in various sizes. Once I am mobile, I will check to see what I have. Picks with that shape & point are often called jazz picks.

Yeah, maybe it was you then. Thanks. Yeah, I know about the “jazz pick” thing. They are smaller than I’m used to. But I think I can work with that. For decades I used celluloid #346 rounded triangles. Earth shattering.

Oh. I thought you had a new song.
So there's your title - the rest of the song is up to you.

Made of Delrin, same as Dunlop Tortex picks.
I like the Tortex picks, so I assume the D'ADdario picks would be fine, too.

It would haveta be a Rap ! "Black Ice," to me, conjures thoughts of dangers hidden in plain sight, or a warning to beware of the unseen dangers right in front of you.

Or an R&B group from the 1980s.

Good one, JohnB
I've tried Delrin before and was unimpressed. But my tastes are fickle sometimes. To me, on these black ice picks, they seem to have a good balance between stiff clickiness and soft feel that I'm liking. The more pointed end seems to be more precise without being too sharp to impede strumming. The size is smaller than I'm used to. That causes some comfort issues. But the bennies might outweigh the baddies.

Speaking of ice, yesterday I melted an ice cube just by staring at it. It took longer than I expected.

For yucks I ordered a pack of regualr shaped picks from D'Addario. They came today. I ordered .7mm and .85mm. My goodness, the .7mm feel like I've been playing them all my life. Very lively sound. Not as pointed as the black ice ones. But they feel natural in my hand. This could be a new thing.

Used to play a .7 all the time. Now when I strum I use a 1.0. It gets rid of All the little flappy sound of the lighter gauges and I sure don’t miss it.

To each his own. There’s no flexibility in 1.0s.

To each his own. There’s no flexibility in 1.0s. Exactly. Preference for a flexible pick could mean you’re gripping your pick too tightly.

Many decades ago, I hit a patch of black ice while riding a motorcycle. I and the bike slid for a ways. While we were doing so, the car behind us pulled out to pass and kept going. “If I had a rocket launcher.” I was fine, bike was mostly okay.
