Bill, I too have been looking at new tires, BF Goodrich Wranglers. Not overly expensive but good all weather and not too noisy on the highway. Bill likes very quiet Touring tires with good road grip for playing zoom zoom on the backroads. My new Goodrich GForce Comp2's feel great, smooth, quiet and grippy. I'll learn a lot more in the twisties of Cheeseland tomorrow. Discount Tire did the whole package -- mounting, balancing, tire disposal, new pressure sensors, taxes -- for $750, which was considerably cheaper than what I paid for the Bridgestones I had on there. Supposedly, they'll match any price you can find anywhere. I had to stand in line for 15 mins to get waited on, but they had the car back to me in 45 mins, so it worked out fine. On edit, they also give veterans a 5% discount, which is modest but still appreciated.

Good afternoon. Went out this morning to the Weeki Wachi Nature Preserve for some solo birding. The preserve has some abandoned limestone quarries that are now lakes. Too deep for the most part for wading birds, not much food for ducks, so there aren't as many birds as one might think but I did get a great cormorant. I'll post more pictures in the photography section. Have a great day folks.

Well my morning, as usual, went entirely different than planned. Got sent on a short errand but my tires were low so I stopped by our car repair shop so the guys could put air in them. They know me since we do all our business there and it's very difficult for me do get down to fill them they always take care of it. They also let me know I was way over time for a oil change so I let them do that. As I said earlier I've been thinking it's about time for new tires and asked them, they said mine are just fine, they are 7 out of 10 still. When I'm ready they will get the tire sale.

Holy shite! We just had a mild earthquake in Brooklyn 10 minutes ago! No kidding. It was weird and somewhat disturbing. The news says it was magnitude 4.7.
I've often thought an earthquake would be one of the most terrifying things that one could experience. I'm glad it appears to have been minor.

I wouldn't want to experience a tornado, either, Shannon. A 4.7 quake is enough for me. Everything shook but nothing plunged from shelves or fell from the walls.

Yesterday my dog nipped at my son's dog while she was speeding by. As a result, my son's dog now has a 3 inch tear on her side with stitches and I spent $1,000 and 4 hours at the emergency vet hospital.
It started me thinking that domestic dogs do not need their canine (fangs) teeth . . . .

I hear both shooting practice and high speed chase/defensive driving practice.

I'm bringing [to gathering at seester's tomorrow] a box of wine and about $100 worth of Old Southern BBQ ribs and cornbread muffin tops. Everyone will be especially nice to me. Just back from Old Southern, where I encountered a New Frontier in Cluelessness. The 20-something gent waiting on me rang up the ribs, and then I ordered a dozen muffin tops, to which he replied, "How many is a dozen?" I wish I were making this up, but nope.

At our old farts lunch Thursday one of the guys said he had gone to Kohl's and asked a young woman if they had shoe horns. She said "I'm sorry, we don't sell musical instruments." He explained what a shoe horn was, and she had never heard of them.

Read about it but didn’t feel it up here. Thought I should have.

It wasn't too long ago that we explained to the girls that we grew up with only landline phones. These Western Bell phones were built to last forever and if you could find one today they would still work. Everybody remembered all the phone numbers they needed or they carried a small phone book with them and you dialed the number yourself. There were pay phones inside or outside many stores and phone boxes on many corners. I showed them images on Google. To them we lived in the Stone Age.

I have shaved twice in 40 plus years both as my wife wouldn’t marry me til she had seen my face. The second day swore I wouldn’t shave again as dragging the blade over a recovering face was quite uncomfortable.

If I didn't shave my upper cheeks and my neck I would look like a neanderthal.
