Morning. The sun has made an appearence on Kauai. It’s welcome. I’ll go for a swim in a bit, hit up the Dolphin fish market for a half lb of their Ono salad. Like tuna salad but so so so much better. They call it crack salad. We will start packing up this afternoon. Check out is ar ten tommorrow but our plane doesn’t leave until ten pm at night.
That is all the news from this little corner of the Pacific.

I just edited a piece about Daniel Lawrence Whitney, better known as Larry the Cable Guy, who is appearing next week at a casino in Red Wing, Minn.
Fascinating interview, in which he explains that he uses his fake Southern accent offstage as well as on, so he doesn't revert to his native Nebraska dialect. He and his wife, Cara, and their two teens live on a 180-acre farm/ranch outside Lincoln, Neb. Cara was raised on a farm in northern Wisconsin.
They have been extremely generous in philanthropy, to wit:
In September 2010, Whitney donated $5 million to the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando, Florida. The gift was for further development of the International Hip Dysplasia Institute at the Orlando hospital. After Dr. Chad Price at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children helped cure their son, Wyatt, of his dysplasia when he was an infant, Whitney and his wife, Cara, made private donations to the hospital and Whitney raised money through appearances on Family Feud and Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?.
He just comes across in the interview as very smart, thoughtful and genuine.

Larry the Cable Guy is one of my favorite comedians. We watch his shows on Netflix. We've watched some of them more than once. He is just so funny. Cara Whitney is also one of my favorites. I have read all of her books. She writes very spiritual books. The books contain testimonies of people who have accepted Jesus into their lives and of the dramatic changes they experienced. I have to admit, I only picked up one of her books when I was walking through a bookstore and saw a book with a beautiful horse on the cover. I paged through and saw that the book was filled with pictures of beautiful horses. I sat down to take a look at what the book was about and immediately I knew that it would be something I would be interested in. I noticed there were even chapters on the benefits of equine therapy, something very near and dear to my heart. After reading her first book, I was hooked and read the others. They are books that can be read again and again. Chapters are short and leave you feeling uplifted. I was shocked when I read about the author and found out who she was married to. I did not know about their philanthropy. How wonderful. Now I like the both of them even more.

When I lived in Lincoln in the late 90's he was a regular on the Omaha morning show I listened to at work. At the time I think he lived in Lincoln, as there was a house that we would point to saying "There's where Larry the Cable Guy lives." I think he was from Crete (just outside Lincoln). He has always seemed to be a really genuinely good person.
