That’s pretty expensive - Martin Harmony turntable - get a cheaper one (humour) Here’s another one Thorens TD 124 DD. $11,999

This just seems stupid to me. Martin doesn’t design or build turntables. They’re only selling 25. What is the point? Did they get an offer they couldn’t refuse.
They aren’t going to earn enough on 25 turntables to justify the marketing even if they got the for free.

Interesting. The only value add that Martin made was specifying a solid piece of wood for the base. The rest of the mechanism was probably manufactured by some Chinese company. Martin most certainly didn't manufacture these. In fact, they probably just gave the company some wood and said make 25 of your turntables with our wood and logo. I wouldn't be surprised if it cost them around $250 per. So there'd be profit in every one.
But it does seem as though Taylor and Martin are doing what the old Gibson company did. Branch out into other brand labelled musical gear. I do wonder how much money that stuff makes for them.

I have a U-Turn turntable, bought about 8 or 9 years ago? It works great, and I was able to add a phono amp when I ordered, so it can be plugged into any device that takes an auxiliary input (anyone else remember stereo systems with phono inputs only?). My base is walnut, though. So I'm not going to spring for a Martin version, though I like the mahogany and it's a nice way to use wood that can't be guitars (and who needs furniture). I must admit I am probably the target market for Taylor's ebony cutting boards. www.taylorguitars.com/stella-falone

I must admit I am probably the target market for Taylor's ebony cutting boards. I thought ebony was toxic. Maybe that’s only the sawdust when inhaled.

We bought a mighty fine Fluance RT85 turntable a couple of years ago. It was less than half Martin’s price and I’ll bet it’s a much better turntable.

I am wondering if that turntable is solid sinker mahogany or plywood with a sinker mahogany veneer. It is not specified in the copy.

One thing you don’t want in a turntable base is anything that conducts vibration. I’m thinking that tonewood might not be a good choice.
