Here are a couple of news storires regarding some excitement in Bartlett, IL early Sunday morning the 21st.
The house with the collapsed garage is my Sister-in-law's place (my brother bought it back in the early 80's for the two or them, after he died, she decided she didn't want to downsize and spent a significant amount updating it). Major structural damage to load bearing walls, so it is uninhabitable.
If you look close in the second picture you can see the nose of her almost new Ford Edge SUV that was in the garage. Luckily, the '71 Javelin (which is her pride and joy that she bought new in 1971) was parked in the second garage in the back. She spent a good amount having that fully restored as well. When I asked about it, she said had he hit it, she would've killed him with her bare hands. It was 4:00am, he was drunk, fleeing a domestic disturbance call (where he hit a cop car), and tried to run away after the crash. His license had been previously revoked and he had no insurance.
On the bright side, she did get to meet many of her neighbors that she never met before, all of them in various night ware.

So sorry this happened. That's going to take some major repair work. Hopefully her homeowners insurance will cover it.

I don't have an account - Herald or CBS website
I wanted to see the pictures....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was OK. Nobody hurt. The driver was a drunkard - not Driver Lic
It sucks for the carport and owner
The Javelin "the pride" (.) ( . )
Have her read her homeowners and auto insurance policies carefully. If insurance does not cover it, some criminal courts will impose restitution as part of the sentence, but I suspect that the villain in her case might never have the assets to pay for the damage.
So far state farm says it is all covered. Including temporary housing.
State farm will go after him for restitution after it is all over.
A '71 Javelin? Shit, I'd love to see that.
Dad made his career with AMC.
Yikes!
I hope State Farm follows through. The perpetrator deserves a good long prison sentence, but somehow I doubt that will make him any wiser.
What a mess one person can cause.
We were home when a car hit our house, narrowly missing Christine.
Houses can be repaired. People not so much.
Hadn't thought of a Javelin in years.
From the first article:
That sentence reads like no families practice emergency plans in case an angry drunk crashed his car through their garage and then their homes.
Seriously, though, what a needles and tragic event, Joe. It was good to read that State Farm has her covered.
