www.gryphonstrings.com/instpix/28323/28323.htmlI'm just thinking out loud here. Sure looks purty. I would like wider string spacing than I have with my D1-A. The hog top has 1&13/16ths, which I have never played before. My dream tone is a combo clean jazzy blues thing, which is pretty close to the D1-A, except that ever since I had frets replaced, myguitar seems brighter than it used to be, and I have some playability issues I never had before with it. I love that my D is going on 9 yrs old, and has a bit of an older guitar vibe. I don't know, there is only one good place in town to take my D for work, and he did the fret work. So I'm thinking. That 00 sure is purty. Mike

Man, I played a bunch of those small bodied collings down at the NAMM show and they were great. A student of mine had a mahog/cedar top OO12 that was the equal of my Schoenberg. He sold it to another student of mine who still has it.
The short scale and easy-to-cuddle size makes the things all but play themselves; really easy to get around on.
Even if this thing was below average for a Collings OO, it would probably still be really good.
Just one opinion, -MM

Colling makes a really nice Hog top. We have had several OM Hog tops and they have been just fabulous. A 00 all mahogany would be a very sweet toned guitar.

cosmo-man, do you want me to check it out for you? I've never been to gryphon and this would be the perfect excuse.

Every time Podium gets in an all-hog sunburst Collings OM, I go into Full Alert GAS Mode. The best one of the handful they have had in stock got away, dang it, but I am prepared to sell a kidney if the Right One reappears.

Very good Bill.....I didn't even catch the curve in that light. [Edit] The Gryphon page didn't load right earlier, but I just tried again, saw them, and now also want one too. It's a cycle.

Cosmo you're on. I might just make a trip down there next monday if they're open for MLK (care to investigate? I think a phone call might get a prompter response than an email...). If not, you might have to wait until next weekend if you're ok with that. I won't get to SF until thursday night and while I mgiht be able to squeeze a trip on Saturday there might be other things on the list... The only caveat - you do know there's not an ounce of blues in my body, right? I'll try to assess the guitar as objectively as I can but keep my own taste in mind...

J, if you can go and check it out, without it taking too much out of your life, it would be very cool. It will be interesting to hear what a trained pro thinks of it, as a musical instrument, vis a vis any others in your experience. I may phone them before you check it out, but it's nice to have a uninterested partys judgement.
Bill, I'm thinking that J could be the best player here, along with El and Larry P and you and Camalax. I have no idea if the "mauves", ummm, wait a sec, that is a joke right? I was thinking it was some scale I had never heard of , like darwinian modes or something, or maybe a new group like the Shins. But hey, I like Neil, so what do i know?
I been playin' "Jesus on the Mainline" using four! chords. Mike
