Over the last couple months I had grown increasingly frustrated with the Don Lace mag pickup on my resonator. I couldn't get rid of the annoying hum at my restaurant gig. I loved the sound of the thing, but the hum was driving my nuts.
The reason I got it was because the acoustic feather that DonMo built into my resonator sounded so thin and weak it really wasn't usable even with EQ. Ironically, the SAME pickup in my Baritone tricone sounds fantastic...go figure.
So I ordered the Fishman Resonator pickup (the one they designed with Paul Beard) and today performed surgery. Given this was the 3rd pickup now, I was skeptical it would sound any better than the acoustic feather, but when I plugged it in to my Baggs mixpro and rolled off the high-end, I was very pleased. The midrange strings are still tad stronger than the rest, but it wasn't so bad a little EQ couldn't solve it. The low end had a very nice fat sound and overall has a very acoustic resonator-like sound. All-in-all, well worth the switch. I can see why Beard recommends these and puts them in his resos.
So it's a good day today. ;D
