59 to 58.
Whoo Hoo. What a game!
In other B-Ball news, Fertile beat Badger/Greenbush to advance to the Section 8 finals against Cass Lake.

I was listening on the radio.
I feel happy for their players, especially the seniors. The last many basketball years have not been good Gopher years.
I don't expect they can beat the Illini, but then, I never thought they could beat Indiana. Every win is like an extra sunny day for an old, old man.
If by any chance they are able to get into the NCAAs, it will be like adding some naked, nubile nymphs to that old man's sunny day.

The Gophers won on a desperation shot with 1.5 seconds left. Four years ago, I watched the guy who made that improbable last second shot make an even more improbable last second shot to win the state AAAA basketball championship for his team. I was there (it was the year the Newfolden boys went to state).
It was a hell of a game. Hopkins was the underdog playing a "super" team from Shackopee. Hopkins hung around and hung around, and with scant seconds left, had an improbable chance to win. Blake Hoffarger(the hero then and now) got knocked down somehow. While he was still sitting on the floor, the loose ball somehow landed in his lap. With a tenth of a second left on the clock, he shot, while sitting on the floor, and swished it from ten feet away.
[From the Tribune]
"As Travis Busch launched the pass the length of the court with 1.5 seconds remaining, any faint chance the Gophers had of reaching the NCAA tournament rested on its accuracy. When Blake Hoffarber caught the pass, turned and hit the shot, the Gophers went from likely NIT team to a squad that's now part of NCAA tourney bubble conversation after earning a 59-58 victory over Indiana in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Conference tournament Friday.
The same player who won an ESPY when he hit a shot while sitting down in the state high school tournament gave the Gophers an extra chance to earn an NCAA at-large berth and helped Tubby Smith keep his streak of seasons (15) with at least 20 victories."

Ahhhh, Paul
Looks like the Illini continued thier Improbable trek through the tournament. if they are lucky enough to fire on all cylinders today, they'll make NCAA. But it's the only scenerio for Illinois.
I always liked Tubby Smith. He coached Kentucky when my daughter went there.
And lucky me. The afternnon games are telecast on regular TV.

The Illini have beaten the Gophers 20 straight.
Oh well, the Gophs will likely get to play more games in the NIT, and playing is the point.

We may join you in the NIT. (Though MN has a better chance at a bid there too)
