OK. This is not what you think it is. But I've got to share with you the song Karlynn chose for the special number to be performed in church the Sunday befoer election day. I wish I could give you an mp3 because it's beautiful and powerful. It's going to be sung by 3 different people; each doing a verse. At the end of each verse that person will kneel next to the previous person and they will sing together the chorus. It's so simple. It's so powerful. It's so beautiful. And it's what I have to say about about politics.
Kneeling - Bob Halligan Jr. - Ceili Rain You ask me what I think of the war You ask me what I think it was for You ask me what I think of our policies My position- my only position is
Chorus: Kneeling- my position is Kneeling- my position is kneeling
You ask me what I think of the Right You ask me what I think of what’s Left You ask me what I think of your certainties My position- my only position is Chorus Kneeling- my position is Kneeling- my position is kneeling
You say I must stand up- for what I believe But when I stand up- well I’m down on my knees
Chorus I'm Kneeling- my position is Kneeling- my position is kneeling

I like it. I don't know that I share it but I like it.

Now, I advocate being involved in the political process. It's a responsibility we all have. I've voted in nearly every election I've been eligible for. But I particularly like the sentiment in the second verse and especially the third line that says:
You ask me what I think of your certainties
To me there are no certainties (other than death and taxes and the love of God). So, before the debate and the arguments are all churned over, my best position is to always remain humble before my God. I'm not always successful. (In fact, I don't think I want to see the latest poll numbers on that one). But my best position in kneeling.

Very nice, Marshall. It's where I aspire to be.

The group is Ceili Rain (kay-lee) and iTunes has it if anyone is interested in giving a listen. It might also be found on the Ceili Rain website. Marshall is also doing a stellar job of charting it.
I think some people take a look at the words and give it a surface meaning of "just pray and God will do the rest." and mistake it as a call to inaction. The meaning I attach to it, is that I pray first and then do what I believe I'm being led to do by my faith. The beginning and ending of the process is on my knees. What takes place in between is directed by where my faith in God leads me to the choices I believe, through prayer, I should make. Not something I always do, but as theeven said, where I aspire to be. I think people of most faiths would say that the knees is where the voting process should begin and end.

Now that I've read the explanations and thought about it, I share the sentiment as well as liking it. Good song. When I look at what bothers me about our government, and particularly its foreign policy, a lack of due humility is high on the list.

I must say it will be a very powerful song to sing with my fellow Central Road members, I give kudos to our music director ms. karlynn for finding it. Humility - whether it be in politics or every day life, is always a challenge.....but crucial. Without it things get quite messy and out of control.

I just checked out Ceili Rain's website and iTunes and indeed "Kneeling" is a tremendous song. All the best in presenting it to your church guy/gals.

Mixing a political thread with a religion thread. tisk tisk.
I don't comment on peoples religion, cause to me religion is private. And I do comment on politics.
So my comments on this thread go something like.
I xxx xxx to xxx the xxx fred xxx xxx dog. So nothing I has to say would make any sense. ;D
