I am just curious if anyone has played or owns a Blueridge BR-143 guitar. I do not live near a dealer and the idea of the long drive might be somewhat softened if I could get a few reviews on them.. I like the idea of the Mahogany rather than the Rosewood models. I own too many rosewood body guitars(Mostly old Guilds from the 70s) In specific: Tone Has the guitar opened up?( if you have had it more than a year) Does it need a lot of modifying? are they consistent out of the box? What tweaks are usually needed with these guitars? Thanks Clif

A friend of mine has a BR-343 (I think that's it). It's the Brazilian 000, anyway. The tone and volume are really quite good, but the craftsmanship is sub-par. They may have since fixed some problems, but on his the pickguard has peeled away from the top at the edges, the nut is both poorly mounted, unevenly cut (the E/A pair are too close together) and leaves too much fretboard outside the E strings. A new nut needed to be made, which was made more difficult by the fact that the join at the neck was not smooth and even to start with. I don't recall playing a 'hog version, but I suspect workmanship issues are not tonewood specific.

I am still holding out for a BR-549 model from Blueridge.

I've heard good things about Blueridge guitars, but I never found one to play. I have a 78 Guild D-55 (nt), which Guild do you have?
