LIVINGSTON, Mont. — A high school principal received a six-day suspension and a letter of reprimand for giving one of his students a wedgie.
Eric Messerli pulled a Park High School senior's soccer jersey over his head and yanked upward on the waistband of the boy's underwear at a soccer game Oct. 5. Other school officials said he was joking around with the student and did it playfully.
He was suspended for two days without pay and four days with pay before the school board decided Monday to let him return. He tearfully told the board: "I've made mistakes in my life, but none have had the impact that this one has had."
Messerli, who was back on the job Tuesday, will be required to talk with students and staff members about the incident to restore respect and authority.
He said his first reaction was to resign, but he decided to "tackle this mess" head on.
"I want to live in a world where we don't have to hide when we screw up," he said.

Livingston is a pretty rough-and-tumble railroad town. I'm thinking this guy may want to just decide to hide, after all.

I think he is right to face the music. It takes a strong man to admit he screwed up, and to face up to it.
Now I do admit that was a pretty dumb thing to do. I wonder what he would have done if hehad seen a student pull the same stunt.

At least he didn't send the kid any creepy IMs.

Whatever happened to poetic justice? I think the kid should have been allowed to give the principal a wedgie in front of the crowd at the next game..... tell that wouldn't draw a crowd!

Forget the wedgie. I think the students should "pants" him on the 50 yard line during a football game halftime. That's be a real show. Uh....maybe not....

If he needs to 'tackle this mess' he shouldn't mess with the tackle in the first place. But, seriously, where's the harm here? It's getting so bad now you can't even look at or talk to a kid without feeling guilty or paranoid about the heavy hand on your shoulder.

Out of context, there are many interactions between adults and children that can be miscontrued. A public wedgie is certainly not acceptable behavior but it does not necessarily exhibit the same creepy behavior as the pedophilic IM sender I seriously doubt the guy is pedophilic at all -- just way too casual in his relationship with kids. He made a mistake, his intents were innocent enough I suppose and he's facing the embarrassment instead of running away (thereby suggesting his intentions were otherwise). Good thing to do. That's the way I'd handle it.

I was just speaking from a local perspective. The wedgie is no big deal. The guy's rather pitiful mea culpa may do him in, here.
Were I writing the script for him, for local appeal, it would go like this:
"Sheesh, I guess the superintendant got all out of joint about a little wedgie. Well, excuuuuuse me. It won't happen again.... As far as you know"
