I've been fooling around with this one for a week and a half. The verses are twelve-bar blues but to a rock beat.
Texaco and Exxon have issued a decree If wages rise a dollar, gas must rise by three A saner man might get discouraged here Me, I’ll sing another song and have myself another beer
The left is really scary, the right is even worse Except for when the wind blows and then it’s the reverse But there's a way to make them disappear I’ll sing another song and have myself another beer
[Bridge] I’ve lost the simple faith that I started with They say the Firth of Forth really came in fifth Pluto isn’t there, John Wayne is a myth Songs are puffs of air
It seems the more I learn the less I really know I reached less than nothing a thousand thoughts ago But when you're clueless everything is clear So I’ll sing another song and have myself another beer
[Instrumental verse]
My retirement savings might last a month or two Then the market hiccups—a week will have to do But that’s okay, I think the end is near So I’ll sing another song and have myself another beer
[Bridge] Lately I’ve been aching in my back and my knee And neither one is still under warranty My doctor says insurance doesn’t cover me For injury, disease or pain
I’m living at the edges the way the Hopis do The old world has vanished, I’m baffled by the new But I won't shrink in the face of fear I’ll sing another song and have myself another beer
I’ll take it one chord at a time

This verse:
It seems the more I learn the less I really know I reached less than nothing a thousand thoughts ago But when you're clueless everything is clear So I’ll sing another song and have myself another beer
seems incongruous to me. The rest of the song you seem to be saying, "Don't worry. Be happy," but with and edge. Then this verse seems to put down the singer and his attitude. It's probably the "I reached" line that seems to flip on itself too much. Kinda wordy and hard to follow. I'm sure as you speak/sing it it would be more clear.
