something new, something blue.
************************
Semaphore Seasons
Semaphore through the seasons With these ageing hands Drunk with death and lilies Twilight in the land
Time is a friend to no one And makes it very clear The sun is far behind you And November frost is here
As the shadows fall As the day is done let the clock wind down Let the bells be rung
Dead seeds for our harvest Mould upon our bread Jackals drown out the service Three witches by our bed
The pendulums waving, Looking down at the rocks Dance along the black brick road, Knock, knock on Pandora's box
As the shadows fall As the day is done Let the clock wind down Let the bells be rung
***************************

There's a lot I like about this one. These lines for some reason grabbed me:
"As the shadows fall As the day is done let the clock wind down Let the bells be rung"
There are a few things that don't connect for me:
"Semaphore through the seasons"
I gather it's something relating to hands but I don't get anything out of it. I know it's your title line, but still.
"Jackals drown out the service Three witches by our bed"
These lines just prompted incomprehension.

it's a greek thing. the three witches are the ones who keep the thread which represent our lives. when they cut the thread, we die. i've just always liked the idea of that.

The fates? Or am I messing up my mythology?
Anyway, it may be a great reference, but people have to grasp it or it isn't.
