So maybe I'm a little late to the party, but with my current trip to Chicago (sittin' in Midway waiting for a flight) I took the "Neverlost" GPS system in the Hertz rental car. Boy, is that ever cool.
Programmed in the hotel address when I picked up the car last night and went almost straight to the hotel. I say almost because it does take a little bit to get used to the timing of some of the commands and I zigged once when I should have paused and zagged. But it recalculated and got me back on target withing 2 blocks.
So this morning I gave it the dealer's address and went right there.
Finished early so I used the Yellow Pages feature to just drive around and waste time.
Found a restaurant for lunch. Then a Guitar Center. Then a Toys R Us. Ran across a Sam Ash along the way. Finally, when I was done noodling, I hit the button and came right back to the rental return lot (often a bit of a challenge).
Given the population density of this area, navigating without it would have been a nightmare.
Way cool. I'll get it every time from now on.

Isn't this like the folks that have the TV on in the car while they drive? I mean can you watch the screen and read the notes and punch the buttons and still pay attention to what is going on outside the windshield?

Nope. Punch the destination in before you start rolling, then you don't worry about it. It gives you voice commands and a little moving map the keeps you on track.
It's a hell of a lot easier in traffic than struggling to read signs on the side of the road.
