So - all you fathers are sleeping in? Sun is shining and drying out from the severe rain of last night. Happy father's day to all you out there (from a son, but not a father).

Good Morning Good People
Partly cloudy and cool this morning. Off to church then my in-laws are coming for dinner. Last night we ventured down to Kalamazoo for dinner with my parents. My Dad's Alzheimers' symptoms have moderated (medications will slow the progression, but not stop or reverse it) Dad's sailing days are over, but we gave him a copy of The Log of the Cutty Sark so he can keep sailing in his mind and memory.
Recognizing that Father's Day does not evoke good memories for everyone, play a tune for your Dad today.

Well, THIS father is down at Strib Towers, because since last night his house has had no power -- some nasty storms blew through around 9:30 p.m. as I was still on my way home from Eau Claire.
But it was the oddest thing -- when I arrived home, my garage door opener would not work, but one of the lights in the house that I had left on was blazing away. NOTHING else in the house had power but one lamp in one bedroom did.
I grabbed a flashlight and headed down to the breaker board -- only one circuit had tripped, No. 20, which showed up as being assigned to ......... nothing.
Then, while sitting there at 10:30 at night with one light in one bedroom working, I hear the refrigerator kick in and start to work.
With that encouraging sign, I went to bed. When I awoke in the middle of the night, the bedroom lamp was out and the fridge was no longer running. And that is how things were at 7 a.m., too. So I have driven to work, where I can at least monitor flights of Elderdottir Beau, who is to arrive at at 10:45 ayem, and Elderdottir and Yungerdottir themselves, who are to arrive at 4.
Happy Dad's day to all you breeders out there. I defy you to best my gift of the arrival of my sweeties, but go ahead and try....
Snark, snark, snark....
Waiting to hear how Lars and his LBCD went over last night, and how Sekh looked atop her platform heels.

Happy father's day to all of the fathers and happy general-purpose day to all others. Bill, it sounds as if you're getting a terrific gift.

We are a family of planners. Up until yesterday, any sort of Father's Day celebration was up in the air... Sunday, either in Lawrence or Kansas City, either lunch or dinner. Finally, I called my brother last night around eight, asking, "Where am I supposed to be when?"
It's settled. 4:00, my brother's house.

All three dottirs sleeping in, along with wife. Wife forgot to turn off alarm last night - it went off at 6:15. I was actually sleeping in, a rare occurence. Imbibed perhaps a tad too much fine brandy last night at our friends wake, but it's okay.
It is a spotless, sunny day here, which, considering it's been like winter here for the past month, is fantastic.
So Bill, I up you - a perfect day after a month of crap, and three dottirs to take care of me and tell me I'm great, all day, instead of just post 4:00 PM.
Now, this elderdottir/youngerdottir thing - I have a 10 year old, a 12 year old, and a 19 year old. So they could be yungerdottir, middeldottir, eldirdottir. However, the 19 year old joined the family after the 10 and 12 year old. So, she's kind of yungerelderdottir. The 10 year old is middelyungerdottir. The 12 year old is eldirmiddeldottir.
Gotta get the pecking order right. But it's very confusing.

Good morning. I'm a father and am being treated to a grilled steak dinner at my daughter's home. All this by the way while we see what Tiger will be up to at the Golf Open finish. Boy what a finish yesterday. He must be worth millions to the game of golf and TV.
I've been playing mostly with the V Picks I ordered the other day. I must say that I like them and will say more later today or tomorrow. I have the mandolin V Pick too that came with the package and want to put in a little more time with it than I have done.
My Bluegrass Club meets this afternoon so I'll get to do a little jamming before I go over to my daughter's. That's a good Father's Day.

It is rainy but pleasantly comfortable here.
I watched Tiger play golf yesterday. He is amazing, I hope his leg holds out, It is painful to watch the grimace on his face. He sure proved yesterday that it takes total skill and a huge amount of luck to play in is league.
Happy Father's day guys. Bill get an electrician out there first thing in the morning.

Rick -- Let's call it a draw, eh?
Johnne -- I don't need an electrician; I need the power company to fix the downed lines! It's been 13 hours now.

Off to church.
Hope this finds you all well. Happy Father's Day, dads.
Paul
PS. I received a heartfelt "happy father's day, daddy" from both the 13 year old and the 5 year old. Neither had to be reminded. Then the baby fell asleep in me arms.
That's enough present for me.

Rick -- Let's call it a draw, eh? Works for me. Days like today, I remember how blessed I am. My wife and I could not have birth children - kept trying and trying, two miscarriages, no luck. So instead of going the in vitro route, we decided we didn't need genetic representatoins of ourselves. We adopted two little girls from China, and they are the light of our lives. Then last year, we were introduced to an 18 year old who was without a family. Hadn't intended to increase the family, but we all fell in love, and here we are. Life's too good to believe sometimes.

Happy Father's Day to all you Papas! Today is lovely. It is the epitome of a June Sunday. Fair, fresh, warm, sunny, breezy, generally gorgeous. Last night was wonderful. Lars and the string orchestra triumphed. The arranger was in tears. Half the principals choked up. You guys who know Lars from Idiot Jam have heard his bluesy singer-songwriter side and mostly that is what he is loved for in Owen Sound and environs. But the lyrical instrumentalist is a well-kept secret. Richard Mascall, the arranger, and resident composer for the orchestra, made such chords, so many delicate passages, such harmonies, that the entire audience was practically breathless. There was much amusing discussion of the unlikely marriage of a group of classically trained musicians and a fellow who really has very little concept of what the phrase "bar 37" might signify ... and the audience ate it up. It was Lars' night to shine. And he, in his modest way, thinks of the few times when he missed a cue, in fact, did a repeat which was not in the score, followed grinningly by the orchestra who learned what it means to just jam along suddenly in front of an audience (we'll make a bar band out of them yet). The party afterwards at our house was so much fun! Many people were invited, many came, the garden was lit with glow lights in the little trees, the deck with tiny white christmas lights, glowing tubes running along the ground, comfy chairs, and the riot of June in the flower beds. Music was heard long into the night. Conversation was delightful. We wound up the night listening to a DVD of David Gilmour singing a sonnet of Shakespeare. I chose not to spend the entire evening being an observer and functioned reasonably well as the hostess. The photos, as a result, are not a documentary, but here are two. Here is the principal bassist reading "The Philharmonic Gets Dressed" to the remaining guests: And here is a snap of the rehearsal:

House still quiet with two sleepers. (Actually five, when you count the two cats and the dog.) Father's Day for me has always been allowing my family to do what they want, and if I'm included, then I guess I deserve it. We'll all be off to the Senior Singles Residence for lunch with me dear old dad soon, then back home to the remainder of the Yankees game (my Father's Day present was 3 seats behind home plate to Friday's game against the As), and perhaps a movie later on. Regards to the rest of you dads.
