Hi! I am new to the forum... I am frustrated a bit - I have my first Martin (000x1) and I loved the sound - much better than more expensive guitars. However, my new strings don't capture the old sound - I am disappointed. Anyone have any helpful suggestions for strings that are like the factory strings? I just put on PB Ultra thin nanos from Elixir. I need something else. Help! Thank You.

Hi, Rusty. Welcome to the SoundHole. I'm guessing that Martin guitars are all delivered with Martin strings on them so, unless your dealer had the guitar for a while, the strings that were on it when it was new were probably Martin strings. As for replacements, string choice is often a very personal issue. I don't prefer Elixir strings but there are great players here on the forum who love them. I'm not familiar with your particular guitar model but a good place to start is with D'Addario EJ16 Phosphor Bronze Lights (12-53). They'll be easy to play while still having enough mass to get good tone from your guitar. If you're really sold on the idea of a coated string, try D'Addario EXP16. Good luck and stop by the Café and tell us more about yourself. - Dub

Yes, a Martin would come from the factory with Martin(Darco) Phosphor Bronze, light gauge. One thing to consider is that the X series guitars tend to be dark in tone so a 80/20 alloy string may work quite well.

Good point, Marty. My experience of Martin guitars has only been with the long established models (D, 000, 00 & 0 sizes with 18, 21, 28, 41 & 45 trim). I haven't really spent much time behind the newer models. - Dub
