Bought a Boostaroo amp for portable music devices a while back. I now have it connected to my iPod so I can use real headphones. The buds that come with the iPod are good, my Shure C5e's are pretty awesome, but the Sony Studio monitors are the best yet. Think I'll take the whole setup on the plane with me. Having a blast downloading music to the compuker, then to the iPod. It's fun listening to stuff that I haven't heard in a while, and shuffle function is great. Oh, playing at this moment is a guitar solo by an anal newspaper editur.

Wait until you see how great itunes is for finding music, making playlists etc. It is an awesome program, let alone all the time spent at the itunes store..you don't have to buy lots (although I do, some albums are 9.99 but 15+ songs, and usually cheaper than the hard copy, and ahhhh instant gratification) but even just listening, and checking out all the videos, games and movies is cheap entertainment!

iTunes is a great program. Easy, intuitive and fun to use. Finally, a program that organizes music and makes sense. I used it for quite a while before I broke down and got my iPod Nano. Wonderful combination. Are Apple's computers this good as well? I wish I'd bought a Mac. Maybe next time.

don't get me started on mac computers....oh my - I LOVE THEM. They are great for so many things, RARELY have problems, and very user friendly. If you like itunes and the ipod you are getting just a taste of what wonderful things you can do with them. iphoto, garageband, idvd, imovie all come loaded on macs. Check out the apple site. They are a bit more expensive, but I think well worth it considering time and frustration with pcs. I haven't had any major problems in 20 years of apples - and they just get better and better. Most creative projects ROCK on a mac....the only reason you might need a pc is for numbercrunching, just like the commercials say. Some games are not available on mac format. But most things are done easier and better.

Yes. OSX is to windows what iTunes is to a self full of alphabetized cassettes.

don't get me started on mac computers....oh my - I LOVE THEM. Oh no! You got her started on Mac computers!!!! Love my iTunes. Love my iPod - will most likely never be without one. iTunes has made my job as a music director so much easier. The word search function is very valuable to me. I was just whining to Kari that there is so much good music to listen to that I felt like I didn't have the time to give any particular group or genre justice. This frustration has come from having my iTunes and iPod. I have 11 days worth of music on my old 20 GB iPod, if I listend to each song once. My son is like Kari - they both drink the Apple Kool-aid. But I won't lie, if it wasn't for a lovely little expensive multimedia program I have to have on my PC for church, my next computer would be an Apple.

Some years back, when apple was just under ten percent of the market (before the imac and ipod and everything 'i" came along), there was the Douglas Adams quote along these lines:
"Ten percent of the market, yes. But it's the top ten percent..."
+1 here. -MM

Hey Bob, if you want to really take advantage of that amp and those quality phones, make sure you load cds onto your ipod in lossless format. Takes more room, but the quality is much better. And after all, you've got 80 gig!

Your next computer can be an Apple. The new Intel core duo based macs will run Windows and your program, in a window on the desktop, while you're running a mac program in OSX in a window right next to it. No special software is required, it's built into OSX, and there is no noticable loss of performance.
I imagine it requires a bit of ram, but so do I.

Most programs now are made for both Mac and PC. But no...not this $550 program. We had to select either Mac or PC. Very clever of them.

no- now you CAN run any program that runs with windows because the new apples RUNS both the WINDOWS operating system and osx. you can switch from one to the other - no excuses now honey go look at the apple website see here: www.apple.com/getamac/windows.htmlthe newest operating system that will be released soon will have a time machine..no seriously. You throw something out, or hit a snag you can go back in time to recover it. don't ask me how...I also love spotlight the search feature. You type something you are looking for and it searches all documents/mail/photos - everything on your computer. It searches not just the title but the CONTENTS beginning to end and gives you lists of things to choose from. even the words on a map! nothing ever gets lost and takes only seconds to find.

I can't use those earbuds so I bought some sennheiser headphones that plug right into the ipod, very good....for my uses, plane flights they are just fine.
I use a mac at hope and a PC for work, no comparison on what is easier and less problematic.
