Sold my old cheap archtop yesterday. Asked $150.00, got three emails within two hours, and it's gone. Wow. Got one email on my cheap mandolin - I asked $100, was offered $80. We'll see if he comes by for it. Still waiting for some offers on the Ovation classical. But so far, so good. Had to clear some stuff out to get the Cargo, but it feels good. If I'm not playing it, not much point in keeping it. I'll end up with Cargo, (how many ways do I love thee? ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) ), my old Tama rosewood dread, (out of my cold, dead, fingers,) which I have tuned to DADGAD now, and my Epiphone EL-00, which I'm going to tune to open G for some slide playing - except I can't find my slide. And my old Gibson Ripper bass. My 'professional' instrument. Downsizing - it's a way of life. How can a man live with only 4 guitars?

You mean you don't have a high strung guitar? It sounds like you're going to be short a guitar.

I'd like to downsize. I could sell my resonator and my little Gibson (if only Alan and Marshall had the cash!) leaving me with my all-around Larrivee. I'd keep my electric, my electric steel, and probably my acoustic steel. I'd keep all of my ukuleles(3).
I would probably replace the resonator and the Gibson with one guitar - something I've dreamed of for a long time. SO really, I'd only be thinning the herd by one.

I have 3 daughters, a wife, Jim. I'm high strung enough. John, that might be something I'd aspire to - sell the EL-00, and get a resonator. But I'm afraid I've had my last gas attach for a few years.... ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

The craigslist faithful are very active. They will hit you within 30 minutes of posting a new ad. Serious offers may not come as fast but the site sure has a lot of activity and traffic.
I'm looking for a car and I search the site at least 4 times a day trolling for newly posted ads.

I have one of my guitars on Craigslist now, just listed yesterday morning. So far I got two responses, one from a guy who wants to trade for an electric, and one from a scammer. Just for grins, I copied my response to the scammer who wants to send me a cashier's check from Nashville:
Justin,
Nashville's perfect -- I'm headed down that way on business this week. What day would be best for us to get together?
Jim

Not that anyone cares, but...
I got him right where I want him. It looks like my Taylor is almost sold. Today's email from the same guy (my response at the top):
From: Jim <I'm deleting my email, but feel free to email Justin> To: justin collins <jcollins0101@gmail.com> Subject: Re: Taylor Acoustic/Elec Guitar: 414-E Ltd., 2006 with ES - $1200 Date: Oct 29, 2008 8:08 AM
Justin,
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm glad to hear that you've agreed to the $12,000 price for this beautiful piece of furniture.
I have a question though: Are you sure the truck is big enough? This is a huge, multi-sectional in the shape of a guitar. If it was only a Martin I wouldn't be concerned, but since it's a Taylor with the ES system (Extra Sized), I just want to make sure that you can accomodate it., and also to confirm that you will be able to handle its nutritional needs.
Please let me know.
Jim

Hey..
Thanks for the reply and i can see you are willing to sell this item to me. I want you to know that you will have no problems dealing with me. I understand your conditions and will want to purchase it for that price. Meanwhile, i have made arrangements with a moving company that would be responsible for packaging and picking up the furniture item,i would also be sending you extra funds, the shipping company requires a fee for them to come pick up the item,so i have included their fees in the payments i would be sending to you,the amount covers for their initial pick-up fees and also for insurance of the item and aslo for logistics, all you have to do is once you receive the payments, you deduct your initial amount for the furniture item forward the rest of the funds to the shipping company via western union,i want this transaction to be as smooth as possible.pls send me the name and address of the person the payment will be mailed out to.pls reply asap

LOL, Jim. You've had a more interesting assortyment of folks than I did. My Mandolin went the other day. Skater kid came and picked it up for $80. Couldn't play a lick. Neither can I, really, but I'd sat mucking with it for half an hour or so waiting for him, so was able to do some passable noodling. He just collects odd instruments, and wanted that one. Go figure.

Craigslist works well for me, usually. That, and some of the forums I participate in. I trust forum folks way more than the ebay public, and even without the protective shell of ebay, I feel safer in the transaction. People don't usually shit in their own bed, so to speak.
Oh, and The Podium. Sold my David Webber OOO and Bourgeois OM there. Good folks, those Podium people. :-)

So should I stop jerking this guy around? Here's today's email exchange:
From: Jim To: justin collins <jcollins0101@gmail.com> Subject: Re: Taylor Acoustic/Elec Guitar: 414-E Ltd., 2006 with ES - $1200 Date: Oct 30, 2008 8:27 AM Justin,
$12,000 was the correct price. This is a Taylor afterall, and I would think you'd be aware of how rapidly they are appreciating in price. I hope that's not a problem. Anyway, that was yesterday. Today the price is $14,000. Please note that I can stop increasing the price once you're mailed the check -- the date postmarked on the envelope will be used to determine the market price.
