One of ours. He's always been prone to walkabouts. We currently live in a house about a mile from where he spent the first 6 years of his life, after which time we moved about two blocks away for the next 4 years. Last May we moved to our current location. Our cat has decided he likes hanging aroung at house #1 neighborhood. He was taking off for 3-7 days at a time until very recently. There are lots of former neighbors who feed him, and one who would let him come inside if he wanted to - he doesn't. He's been gone for over a month this time. I picked him up there last night (he din't try to run away and sat calmly in my lap in the car) and he hung around with us for about 6 hours, affectionately - and left in middle of the night. He was obviously glad to see us and our other cat, and even the dog, but he's gone again. I guess he's happy where he is, but I've never been divorced by a cat before.

He wants to go back to his "ranch". It's his.

Stands to reason that sekh would be the first to reply to this one.

"Weird cat behavior" implies that there is some other kind.

He may move back entirely, if he sees that he has a new ranch. But he has to share this ranch with another cat AND a bloody dog. It seems like the other one is free and clear with lots of prey opportunities and people willing to give a hand out when the hunt doesn't work out.
Nothing to do with loving you. It's a matter of real estate.

I'd have serious issues of inadequacy!

Oh Bob, you know there's nothing quite like a purring cat batting his head into you, drooling.

Oh Bob, you know there's nothing quite like a purring cat batting his head into you, drooling. Agree totally, love it when that happens, but know that it's all for them. I could just as easily be a deck post.

Oh Bob, you know there's nothing quite like a purring cat batting his head into you, drooling. Or walking backwards, ralphing ropes.
