For all you current or former baseball coaches... Canuckistan hockey coaches need not reply, eh.
Is it legal to pull a pitcher, put him on the bench for one batter, then bring him back in to finish the game? I thought it was only legal if the pitcher stayed on the field at some other position. It happened yesterday, and no one protested.

Not a coach, but my daughter's played a lot of softball.
Softball usually has a starter re-entry rule. So any starter can be replaced and then come back in the game later.
Not sure what the purpose is, but your experience sounds like that.

I can't speak to a particular area's high school rules, but my general understanding of baseball rules says no way.

I can't speak to a particular area's high school rules, but my general understanding of baseball rules says no way. Rules depend on the league. There are no real hard and fast rules. I suspect the starter re-entry rule is meant to encourage broader participation. You can bring in scrubs if you've got a healthy lead if you know that you can go back to the starters if there's real trouble.

Wow. I suppose high school could be different, but it wasn't back in the stone age when I was playing.

Don't ask me anything about sports, I just noticed that football is now kicking off from the 30 yard line a couple of months ago.

That's the 30 meter line, Don. There have been some changes. Oh, and it is no longer called "kicking off", it's referred to as "giving 'er the boot".
