Since our high school is closed Mon - Wed from a reported case of the Figpucking flu and we've had rain cancellations, the Varsity baseball team must play 3 games in 3 days, then get 2 hours rest before playing a PLAYOFF game on the road! The team has only 2 starting pitchers, and maybe 4 relievers. I won't let Graham start Thursday, then Sat, then Tues. It's a definite injury scenario. He's pitching in college next year. More important Bad deal for our team, perhaps they'll find a way to pull it off. I hope the coach has enough sense to call up some pitchers from the JV team.

Well, if you're not going to let Graham start that many times, then the coach will [i[have[/i] to call up some JV pitchers. Hope he does.

I don't mean to minimize the health issues here. Just found out the school will be closed for a week. That's going to seriously impact alot of stuff, including graduation, I expect. There were very few people in the video and grocery store today - everyone's freaking out. A little unecessarily, I think. Perhaps I'm the carrier - I had the flu for 2 months. Still have symptoms now.

There were very few people in the video and grocery store today ....Perhaps I'm the carrier. Perhaps it was the Rapture, and hardly anyone else is left except you. (Or me).

Rapture...that was funny!
Sorry to hear about how this is affecting Graham's baseball Bob!
My daughter was telling my son and daughter in law about her cancelling her trip to Mexico. They both thought she was overreacting to the scare.
It's so hard to know but I guess I fall into the "rather be safe (if there is such a thing) than sorry" camp.
There is an alert on our school district website urging parents to keep checking for the possibility of school closing. Sounds like it's up to the Health Departments to make that call...it's not a district level decision.

I understand your frustration, Bob. I'm thinking this is overblown.
I heard this evening that at one nearby church, they didn't serve wine during communion today and the priest served the bread with rubber gloves on. The parishioners didn't shake hands during the peace. At our church, communion was served the same as always and we all shook hands during the peace. I didn't hear anyone comment on the matter.

It's very silly, the whole thing. Way more people die from the flu each year than have been affected by swine flu so far. Way more people die from traffic accidents - don't see people refusing to get into cars, or always buckle their seatbelts. Way more people die from heart attacks - don't see the consumption of fast food going down.
It's getting ridiculous.

They've closed some schools here in SC including one were there's a flu out break that is not H1N1.
The concern is that the usual seasonal flu infects somewhere between 5-20% of the population and kills about 30-35,000 people. Since no one has immunity to H1N1 it could infect 50% or more of the population and kill about 300-350,000 people.

I have experienced noticeable Athletic Fallout over these last few years. So, it's that damn flu. I knew there had to be reason.

This flu scare is more of a media event than it is a medical one.

Heard an anecdotal story how some proms were canceled. Kids had their gowns and tuxes, limos and bands all lined up, then the school district say nuh uh.
So of course those kids are gonna stay home and watch TV now.
