My contractor, who been doing the concrete, tile, and plumbing portion of the bathroom remodel, and caused a leak that cost 2800 bucks to repair the damage to floors and walls, agreed to fix it at his expense, as he should. However, he threw a fit (because he's not being paid) and walked out with about 60% of the job done, never to return. My son's coming home on Friday, and I'll be hiring someone to finish. I am so pissed. I used this guy many times before with no problems, and unfortunately, he is unlicensed. A 10K job is likely to cost well over 20K now. I know. Hire licensed contractors. Except I do remodeling work for people as well and I'm not licensed either, but I keep my commitments, and fix any mistakes I make at my own expense. Add the pneumonia to this mix and it makes it much worse. There's alot I physically can't do now. And the Giants are losing... it's early, I guess.

At least whining is free. I can feel your anger, Tbob. That really and truly bites.

Ouch. Nothing like flushing good money after bad. And it's not something you can put off now, is it?

Oh. I thought you got hired by this guy for a makeover: Sorry to hear about your troubles. That's why I end up doing so much remodeling stuff on my own.

He got bent because he wasn't paid before the job was complete??
That really stinks, Bob.

We are very fortunate that our contractor is an old friend from high school. We worked together on our office and never had a problem as we are both fair minded. I hired him to build a large lean-to type shed for the company four wheelers and boats. I paid him time and materials and by some estimates saved close to 10K. We hired him to do the remodel on our house the same way. The subs gave estimates; he worked T&M. The wife is very happy with everything and that's all that matters.
