A while back someone posted on problems with the automatic control on their humidifier being unreliable. I've had similar issues in my guitar shop and recently got this thing. It will control both a humidifier and a dehumidifier. It's settings correlate very well with my sling psychrometer and it's worked flawlessly. If you have a situation where you need accurate relative humidity control it's worth a look. www.greenair.com/old/humidistat.htm![](http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh38/terken1/Greenair.jpg)

Ever since I converted to Carbonism, I see things in a different light. I no longer discriminate against or fear low humidity. I can now see it for what it is, just another moisture content, and can love it as I love all creations of the great Graphyitus.

That was me and my Honeywell HDM-650. A 50 buck Home Depot special. It's been working fine after about a week of electronic psychosis. Well working fine except it couldn't keep up when a long cold spell sent the outdoor humidity to the teens. Even dumping 8 gallons of water a day only keep my 960 sq/ft house at about 30-35% inside for a few weeks. Now it's in the 40-45% range. I was going to buy another one but I wanted the same model (parts swap, spares etc) except they are only available online and then I got slack when the humidity went back up. Maybe today is the day.
I bet that controller cost more than my humidifier.

Yes, I'd say the cost of your humidifier plus taking your sweetie out for a night on the town.

DocT, is using that controller with a stand-alone much different than using an automatic pad humidifier with humidistat on a whole house furnace? I don't know how accurate it was, but we had that setup on our forced air system when we lived in the Frozen Nawth. It made a huge difference in comfort. The few times it shut down we shivered in our boots. A dry house sure feels cold.
