Very slick.
Saw a National geographic show on factories this weekend and they talked about the Lamborghini factory. Seems Mr. Lamborghini made his money making tractors and one day he bought a Ferrari. The clutch went out so he took it to his mechanic at the tractor factory who pointed out that the clutch in the car was the same one they used in their tractors so he swapped it out.
Later Lamborghini met Ferrari and complained to him that a high performance car should have a better clutch than a tractor clutch and Ferrari basically told him to stick to tractors and leave real cars to someone else. This pissed Lamborghini off so he started making his own cars. He did pretty well.

It's sad that they're all owned by some other company and mostly country now. Like Ford kind of ruined Jaguar, who owns Rolls now, BMW? It's just not the same. Not that I'm defending British engineering, which I never would at least on reliability, British was British and Rolls/Bentley was the best.

Yeah but if you replace the fuses with tinfoil it either works or you find out where the short is really fast.

You know you're way too much of a tech geek when you notice the tachometer.
You can hear the various revs of the different cars and how they go up as the car gets newer. Power in an engine is a function of cylinder pressure,bore, and rpm. As engines get smaller and push the limits of combustion efficiency, rpms necessarily go up, consistently pushing the limits of piston acceleration without (hopefully) simply spooling apart. The trick in driving these cars fast is to stay reving in the power band at high rpm and use shifting and braking to try to keep the whole screaming mess under control.
The second car was pegged at about 10,000-11,000 rpm. The modern one is running close to twice that.
Compare that to your car at home.

I took a ride on a GSXR 600 last year...had a redline in the 15k range. Wind that thing up and it sounded like you were riding a very pissed off bumblebee.

I remember reading that one of the recent Yami R1's was pushing 17K. That's simply unholy. On another note, on one of my trips to Finland a couple years ago, the group I was with got to spend an evening in a professional rally car simulator. Full chassis mounted on hydraulics running various courses projected on screens. The guy's that ran it explained how to drive properly and one big trick is to never take your foot off the accelerator if possible. Gives driving a whole new meaning. By the way,we had a competition. I finished second to a guy that I navigated for. Good lord, them's fun times.

I loved the second one. The 60's era F1 cars were always my favorites. I always wanted to be Graham Hill or Jim Clark instead of just another dork with a TR3
