Another quiet, understated gem from Clint Eastwood, probably not everyone's cup of tea, but mine. One of those fairly predictable bunch of people whose lives intersect by the end of the movie, but with a well utilized cast, lean script, and Clint's spare direction of course. Worth a rental or Netflix.
Who woulda thought that unpolished hunk from Rawhide would go on to be one of the most prolific and celebrated directors of all time?

We saw him in your neck of the woods some time back. He was at the next table at a restaurant in Sausalito.

I remember watching him in Rawhide when I was a kid. Never would have suspected what he had inside.

He puts out so many movies that he has the luxury of using the same crew over and over. Most of the people on his films have worked for him for years and years. I can tell you from experience that this level of shared past makes a lot of conversations unneeded. Crews work faster with less instruction. Eastwood also has a trait of always producing his films on time and on or under budget. He shoots his rehearsals in case they are good enough to be the finals. Film is cheap, time is expansive. When he directs he doesn't say "Action". He says "OK'. He said he started that when he was doing shots with lots of horses and they would learn what "action" meant and get jittery once you said it. So he changed what he said.

I like Clint Eastwood's movies - especially Gran Torino Yeah, and I remember him in Rawhide too. I used to love watching that when I was a kid.
