After the discussion on feedback I made some F hole plugs that work great. Followed Marty's advice and traced the outline on paper and used the $2.50 black flip-flops from Target as recommended by Dave Roos. Cut them on the band saw. ![](http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh38/terken1/IMG_4725.jpg) ![](http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh38/terken1/IMG_4726.jpg)

TK, why'd you plug them F holes? Never saw that before.

Why did you use the expensive flip-flops?

TK, why'd you plug them F holes? Never saw that before. I was told that guitar had a lot of good music in it and I didn't want it to leak out too quick! Actually to help with feedback Paul. I've never tried plugging them before and it really does sound cool through my amp, kind of a rapid decay of the notes and chords that I like. I've got a little job tomorrow night and I'll see how that goes. I've had some major feedback issues that that guitar in certain venues and I hope this helps.

PS: That's a gorgeous guitar, even with the flip flops on top!

I've always been fascinated by the Gretsches with the painted-on f-holes.

Hey Terry! I want to buy a set of those from you for my ES 175. Is an F-hole an F-hole unless it's a Trini Lopez diamond?

While you are ripping up flip flops, I'd like to get in line with Lonnie. Methinks my ES-165 (basically an ES-175 with just one humbucker) is the same size, and it can howl like a banshee sometimes!

I wouldn't count on the standard-ness of f-holes. I suppose Gibson probably uses a jig, so they'd be mostly standard. But there's probably more than one jig. And individual operator preference would come into play. Trace you hole first (if I might be so personal).

Those would be great if you had f feet.

"F Hole Plugs"
You pay extra for that kind of action in Tijuana.
::Rimshot::
In all seriousness, most nifty there. I would have never thought to cut flip-flops with a band saw. Clever stuff.

I found sizing to be trickier than I thought. I ruined a couple that were too small. Like Marty said, trace the hole, cut oversize, and then slowly remove material to make it fit. I really had to creep up on it and I think you need the guitar there for trial fitting. Be careful discussing this with non-musicians. One of my wife's friends asked what I was doing in the shop yesterday and you should have seen the look on her face when I told her I was making F hole plugs.

Nifty little gadgets for making your expensive jazz box look like crap.
Why not just use duct tape like we do here in the South.
