Getting rid of my Black(dingle)berry 9550. It's been nothing but problems for 18 months. So I'm looking for a phone that makes and takes calls, takes a decent pic, is NOT a butt dialer, easy to text, bluetooth compatible. Has anyone bought a phone recently with these features that they're happy with? I am a Verizon customer. I have been on Verizon's website and see a lot of LGs. My son has an LG Intensity he likes, but I won't get one like his. It's a butt dialer. Thanks.

Not super easy to text, but I use a Samsung Rugby. Nearly indestructible.

We're still using the pair of dumb Nokia TracFones we got several years ago. Functional, reliable, textable, and really cheap to run--no camera, though. I am so not up to date.

I don't have any specific suggestions but anything on their free or dirt cheap list should meet your criteria. Don't overlook the refurbs. AT&T sells the iPhone 3GS for only $49

I have an LG VX5500 It's a flip phone so no butt dialing. It has a camera and Bluetooth and it's a phone. That's pretty much it but it's all I need. It was free with an extension of our contract.

What you got there is a butt dialer. (if you ever use it at an airport, be sure to keep your feet real close together. Or not, depending on how adventurous you are feeling.)

AT&T sells the iPhone 3GS for only $49 That is a great deal if I weren't dumbing down. I already have an AT&T iPhone, but phone coverage is terrible where I need to use it. And again, I really don't want/need data. Greg, I may look into the LG VX5500. I think all three of us had this phone a few years ago. Quite functional.

Boy, they don't get much dumber than my phone, although it does have Hinge Technology -- and a camera and a clock and a calendar and lotsa other stuff I will never discover. Total outlay: $25, at Target. I buy Verizon cards, spend about $30 a month on them. Plus I can talk to my daughters, my sister and any other Verizon client without using any of my minutes.

Butt dialing? I'm afraid to ask...

Most phones have keyboard locks on them. On the iPhone it is the slider on the bottom that wakes up the phone. But very few people use them (obviously, or we wouldn't be discussing butt dialing, the unintended dialing of your cell phone when stuffing it in your pocket.
It is usually a 4 digit code that you have to enter to turn the lock on and enter again to turn it off. The phone automatically bypasses the lock when the phone rings with an incoming call. Of course flip and slider phones do away with this issue completely.

No go, Russ. What you got there is a butt dialer. That would be a considerable feat of contortionism, since I keep it in a coat pocket. Maybe when I was young and flexible. Or if I tied my coat around my waist. Anyway, the 2600 is years out of production.

It's really hard to find a good dumb phone anymore. My son's got a Verizon Samsung that he's never upgraded--looks like the one in the picture above and it's probably at least 7 years old.
When our Razr broke earlier this year it was the day of the Verizon iPhone announcement. I picked a free basic Verizon phone to keep us going until the iPhone arrived. It was actually OK, except it was really tricky plugging in the charger. BTW, I had to replace my iPhone on Sunday. Waited a couple of hours at the packed Apple Store in Short Pump, VA--only one in about a 100 mile radius. The home button was working intermittently--of course when I took it in it decided to work, but they must have confirmed it going out so they just brought me a brand new one.

If you set a code, Please make it a point to remember it...

I wish they still made razors. That was a simple, easy to use phone.

good point Johnne. That's probably a call you get often.
