Anyone seen and can recommend either Super 8 or Midnight in Paris - or perhaps something else? Not interested in action or CG.

Cutter's Way is on my top ten list. Saw it on a premium channel recently. John Heard hasn't done anything as good as this since. Bridges of course is another story. Lisa Eichhorn is the glue and soul of the movie.

The movie reviewer guy on CNN yesterday liked Super 8 a lot. Steven Speilberg is the producer and he said the movie is a lot like his '80s films.
I'm going to wait for it to come out on blu-ray, but I definitely want to see it after hearing his review and seeing some of the clips.

I'm going to see Super 8 today. I'm not into comic book or action hero movies. I was considering Hangover II to see if it was just as funny as the first. My instincts tell me it won't be. So Abrams/Spielberg it is.

I really enjoyed Super 8. There were a few items I didn't like but overall the movie was well done and the young actors did a great job.
I was a bit confused with the "dating" of the movie. Obviously set in the seventies based on the cars, the scenery, the clothes and the music but at one point the kids start singing "My Sharona". That song was released in late 1979 so that threw off the time setting of the movie for me. Based on the cars alone it looked more like 1974 to me. The train wreck was almost "too spectacular" a bit overboard on the drama and hard to believe that anyone would have survived it. Those are both minor points. Overall the movie was well done and a fun afternoon escape.
