I was driving on the north side of Indianapolis (just about a mile from where Bushouse works) not long ago and I noticed they had a very nice paved bike path running parallel to the road for miles. Then I noticed several bikes riding on the road instead of the bike path. I couldn't figure out why until someone told me. The bike paths have speed limits.

Nice time off. Went to bed very late Friday and woke up at 3:30 Saturday to drive to A&M and see Cameron and a few of his teachers. Got there at 8:45, sleepy as hell, and had a nice talk with the dean of Viz. Found out the answer to two questions that I was curious about. 1. How long does it take, on average, for someone to actually GET their masters in Viz? A. Average of three to three and a half years with a large part of that spent writing the thesis and getting their demo reel in a hire me state.
2. When all these studios come to visit, they are mostly looking at the grad students and not the seniors for job prospects, right? I mean why hire someone with four years of experience when they can get someone with seven for the same price? A. Yeah, their primary interest are the grad students. if they see a senior with exactly what they are looking for they will grab them but for the most part, yeah, they want the more experienced people.
makes sense and makes me glad Cameron has gone to that path.
In other news down there we found out that Cameron has been volunteering at a local high school. There is an extra credit animation class that is prety good but they need help with storyboarding and lighting and inspiration so Cameron and one other guy spend a day a week over there working with the kids and doing all sorts of training sessions. he's having a blast and the teacher is very thankful to have what amounts to actual pros helping the kids out. He's working them through a pretty large animation project that, if they finish it and it looks good, he will show it at the end of semester Viz show on campus.
Saturday night we visited a high school friend of Kelly's who was in the hospital. She was a contractor who fell off a ladder and landed on her head. She was in a coma for a week and has suffered some rather nasty brain damage and has a very long haul ahead of her. She still can't talk, can barely focus her eyes, and can only stand for a few minutes at a time but considering where she was a few weeks ago, that is pretty good.
Saturday night we went on to Galveston in a sleepy haze and managed to get to a hotel before falling alseep on the road. Sunday was spent having a little (lot) seafood and letting Kelly recharge her ocean batteries by standing in the surf.
We drove back through A&M on the way home and had dinner with Cameron. We didn't make it back to the house until 2:30 Monday morning.
Yesterday I went out for 20 minutes to drop off something at the credit union and the water pump blew up on the car. I'm glad it happened four miles from the shop instead of 200 miles from the shop.
Anyway, I'm kind of back. I was reading a lot of what was said over the last month and there was something posted that I'm trying to think of a way to respond to. Not sure how yet.

Hang in there, Howard. Get a cat. How did--have you been talking with my daughter, Paul? (Tramp: Good to see you back.)

Paul, one night of sleep, one night of no-sleep. Boring as hell. Sorry to hear it.
Spring here, normally cool but some sun.

Welcome back, Tramp. It's been very quiet and well behaved. We're all just sitting here on the group W bench, having created a disturbance..... ;D

Glad to see you back, Tramp. When I was teaching people like Cameron were a great thing to have come in your classroom, so good for him.

OY! Am I having an unpleasant day here at the old office. Hedline tech error, chewed out by my manager for going above and beyond, the mucus ball at the next desk is making all sorts of horrific noises (all day, every day), the BA Jam is losing steam and someone I kindly offered to host a house concert for just emailed with a list of prerequisites that is curling my hair. Plus, the only open dates they will be available in NYC are Monday through Thursday... what? I don't think I can have someone with a Bose PA play a concert in my living room on a week night. I live in an apartment house. Yeesh. I just want to go home and play guitar. Howard, tell them if they don't leave you alone at work, I'll start ordering all my camera gear from Adorama! That ought to scare 'em! I'm still pumped about the B.A. Jam. I've about decided that my Martin will be the guitar that makes the trip. It is an interesting guitar (just ask Millring), a maple bodied dred.

Shannon, thanks for the team spirit. I will look forward to hearing your maple dread in June. Our LR has better acoustics now than it did the last time you played a guitar there. (And that unsightly pile of moving boxes is gone.) Paul, are you suggesting that I self-induce flatulence? As an act of revenge?

Were you gone, Tramp?

Jeff, posting "bought a new bike last night" is like posting "bought a new guitar last night." Details, Jeff. We need details.

It's on his Facebook page. It is a nice lavender with a white wicker basket mounted on front handle bars. Very practical. It even has a lowered top frame for easy on and off. The white tires are cool, too. Huffy builds them good.
