Due to my drastically changing life, I will be selling all I mentioned above and more at "divorce forces sale", and "moving" prices, and will be putting them on eBay and maybe Craigslist. I'm probably just going to keep my 1998 Taylor 312CE, but if I can get $800 for it, it may go too. If any of you are interested in knowing more, send me an email at bob mckennee at yahoo dot com or call me at four one five six seven two four eight nil nil. Please remember the time zone (PDT) if you call. I'll put this in For Sale as well, but the exposure here is probably far greater initially. Quality carpentry tools, power and hand, Yahama electric piano, guitars, dulcimer, some nice antique furniture, stereo components, a laptop or two, 600 quality CDs, misc. other shit. 30 years of collecting stuff. "One man's trash is another man's garbage treasure". Or something like that.

T-Bob -- sorry you are going thru all this. Some will say "It's just stuff", but there is a lot of life interwoven with the stuff we have.

I think this sort of thing gets harder the older we get. My sympathies Bob. Truly.
When I was in my twenties I regularly held Free yard sales. Gave away the accumulation of years a number of times. Once I decided that everything had to go except what two people could pack in a 2002 BMW. I still had too much stuff.

Message me as well, Bob. Still have Barbarella? Yes, I do. I'd bet it would sound pretty damn good with nylon strings.

Hey my man, I know you asked for some advice a little while ago on the bankruptcy thread so here's a hint combined with this thread.
You're only going to be allowed to come out of the bankruptcy with a certain amount of stuff (not sure of the rules in CA, that's for your lawyer) including money in your bank account. The rest will be taken by the trustee to pay off as much of your debt as possible. Extra cash in the bank account is the easiest thing for the trustee to value and take.
The standard for valuing stuff is the weekend yard sale value as opposed to the "right buyer at the right time" standard. So your Barbarella may be worth $4000 if you had the time to wait, but at garage sale prices it may only be worth $500.
Something to think about is whether it is prudent to sell the guitar prior to filing and have an extra $4000 in the bank account for the trustee to take OR protect it in the bankruptcy as a $500 guitar and then sell it after the bankruptcy is clear.
This was a big part of some of the decisions we made with the bankruptcy. For instance my boy wanted a new saxophone for the high school jazz band. By buying it we got him something he wanted and transferred some cash they might have taken otherwise and transferred it to him where it didn't show on our balance sheet anymore.
And with the bankruptcy you'll get a new appreciation for the value of cash (death of cash my ass). Nothing really specific to add here, but it feels good to have money in your pockets rather than cooling its heels in a bank account.
Just sayin'......

Yup. There really is nothing quite like a pile of cash.
