I didn't listen but I did read it. Not even close to balanced. Just more Democratic talking points.

I think Logan makes good points about negotiations. He clearly brings experience and thought to his piece. What I think Logan misses is that the parties he's considering here are more about public perception than actual result. The Democrats go for compromise first because they evidently think they have more to gain from that perception than from the result of any negotiations. Republicans, same deal. They are seeking the perception of fiscal responsibility rather than actually taking any responsibility. I suspect both parties believe we will become so weary of the process we will give up caring about the result.

Curious here, Doug--I also read rather than listened, and I'm wondering how Logan's outline of a negotiating process amounts to "Democratic talking points." At the end he carefully dings each side for not following his model, and the piece as a whole is strikes me as an advertisement for his consulting services rather than a partisan op-ed.

Compromise the art of surrender.

I didn't realize that "surrender" was a synonym for "stop yelling with your fingers in your ears and listen to what the other guy is saying." Or that compromise was an exclusively Democratic practice. Oh, wait, that last one might be so.
