There just aren't enough inspiring videos about middle aged guys who ride a bike in their basement while reading. I don't get it. That sounds like good drama to me.

That's really cool, thanks! I've ridden a lot of those climbs during a couple of trips to France to follow the Tour. (1992 and 2003) The scenery, especially around Alp d'Huez and up the Col du Lautaret and Galibier in the Savoie is some of the most spectacular stuff I've ever seen. We rode a lot in the Pyrenees as well but the Alps were more breathtaking. None of them are easy and the descents are hair-raising. Like the cyclists interviewed said, you are probably more focused and feel more alive than in anything else you ever did. I'd love to get in shape to go back but I think those days are over. Lyrca and I don't go well together any more. Here's a shot half way up the Lautaret just past La Grave in 2003. ![](http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh38/terken1/TJontheGalibierII.jpg) Here's the crew from the last trip, my son Matt and my good friend Evan and his girlfriend Tayna. The guys were great riders and real Eurodogs from previous trips( like my dad liked to say, "all muscle, bone, and reproductive organ") and Tayna spoke French fluently so it really was the trip of a lifetime. We rented a van and spent three weeks riding and following the race. ![](http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/hh38/terken1/MoreEvanMattTyana.jpg)

I would say that pretty much captured the Lautaret. It's beautiful in kind of a mellow laid back way. Nice!
