Actually, I know the answer, but was wondering if anyone here would know these. There's a professor still hanging around at my school (actually retired) who sends shots like these around from time to time. These are not naturally occurring (you can see a sign in the background of the first). There are lots of gardens around the other campus--I don't think I've even seen them all. I've tried to get him to go for more depth of field, at least sometimes, but either he doesn't get it, or my Japanese is not good enough. Can anyone ID them?

The first one kind of looks like Foxglove...not sure about the second one or are they the same?

Second is belladonna.Our pharmacy department is very much into herbal medicine, or kampo. The prof who does the pics has done quite a few papers on THC, which is probably in one of the more secret gardens.

Very poisonous flowers. Interesting teacher you had there. Many people have died thinking Foxglove was Comfrey and drank the tea. Belladonna has been used as a poison for centuries.

Belladonna has been used as a poison for centuries. Belladonna has also been used as a heart medicine for at least a century. It's all in the dosage.

Always loved foxglove. It grows all over the place here. Prolly not the best thing to have in your yard, if you have pets or little kids.
