Right 5th metacarpal - playing basketball with my son. He tried to block a shot and got all hand - no ball. Haven't had it X-rayed yet, but there was a loud crack when it happened, and it's swollen and I can't move it. Just recovered from the knee surgery. There goes my tennis and baseball season - damn!

Bob, ouch! That's a tough one. I've been there. I wonder if you might have jammed the knuckle? I've done that--still a loud crack and swollen for a long time but not broken. I wish you a speedy recovery!

Thanks, Blue. That would be the alternative diagnosis, but I've broken enough bones, and jammed my knuckles as well, to know that this is a break. Actually, it may heal faster and more completely than a jam would. My hands look quite misshapen from all the sports injuries I've sustained.

Bob,
I feel for you. Not nearly as much as I would were your avatar not a DAMN YANKEES flag, but hey.
Seriously, a broken finger hurts and I hope yours heals up fast.

One word. Golf.
Weakening the right hand will get rid of that hook of yours (from the baseball swing you had been using). Let the left side rule!

Oh Bob.... You'd better ship your guitars to me for safe keeping while you recover.
Seriously... I hope you have a quick and complete recovery. Broken bones, dislocated joints and other injuries are not only painful for guitar players. They can be downright depressing if they hinder your ability to play.

Confirmed by XRay, good clean break, no displacement. Will keep immobile with a wrist brace and a splint. All the docs were too busy to see me today, and Urgent Care had a two hour wait, so I had my friend the vet take a pic. They didn't make me wear a muzzle...

A vet? Lol!
I hope for a good, straight heal.

My condolences.
But at least it'll give you some time to find a baseball team to root for that doesn't suck.
Go Tigers!

You know Bob, you've got to change your story a little. You should tell everybody you broke it while taking-it-to-the-hole & hanging on the rim.
