Btw. God's Pocket is an incredible book by Pete Dexter, a former newspaper reporter from Philadlphia. The title refers to a particular neighborhood in Philadelphia. A very raw nerved read with an extra dose of noir. I'd recommend the book. You know, if your taste cleaves in that direction. Haven't liked all of Dexter's efforts, but was stunned by that one. It was his exit from reportorial writing to becoming a novel writer. So keep your eye out for this one coming down the pike.

Read it. Loved it. Loved Hoffman's work, too. Never liked the idea of heroin. This is sort of a shock, in a way. His poor kids.

(Aside: Godot, did you ever read Dexter's Deadwood? I'll wager you didn't like that one so much. I liked The Paperboy, too.)

He gave her a big smile. He was excellent in everything as far as I could tell. Very, very sad.
