This came out of the blue to me from friends that now live in Texas. It is a video of the Union Grove Fiddler's Convention in 1974. Joey Trotter and I were traveling up and down the coast, picking up a few minor gigs. We finished at the Union Grove Fiddler's Convention, running out of money to buy gas to get back to Philly as we reached the festival. We found out that you would get a cash refund for your festival ticket if you played in the contest. We had no band, so we used Trotter's girl friend on fiddle, picked up a banjo picker, a washboard player and washtub bass and entered. I want to thank Henry T Fiddler and Abigayle Lawrence for getting this to me. It sits on an independent film maker's site that was totally unknown to me. The footage of me with Joey Trotter on the main stage starts at about 11:35. It was a memorable event in my life and I had no idea that this footage existed until 3 days ago. Linky thingy: Union Grove 1974

Very cool. 1974 was a half million years ago.

The equipment & cinematography makes it seem much older

Man, if they had medals for beards, Joey would have got first place. That's some serious bush right there.
Some days I long for those times. Lots of others I'm pretty content where it's all at.

That is just wonderful! What a great time you must have had. So cool that we can see it too.
One (other) familiar face jumped right out at me... the late great Tommy Jarrell.

Loved the comment that was spoken under our piece. 'The younger generation...18 to 40... Will be running this country soon. I try to represent them here.' Then our piece was followed by the out of tune girl duo. Did we really fit with them? Yikes.
sounded like Tommy Jarell speaking. Wish I had known more about the old folks while I was there.
