That works for some folks. And for those of us who just like what we like, the telly is one source of enjoyment among many. (For the record, I review two or sometimes three books a month, read a couple or three more for pleasure, go to movies, play out twice a week, hold a season ticket to the Chamber Music Society series, work two or three folk-society concerts a month, and still have time to hang out here. And I keep up with Doctor Who, Miss Marple, and a fistful of crime shows thanks to the miracle of Tivo. Of course, as a retired geezer, I have the time for all that and my nap.) So, what do you think of Mr.Capaldi so far? I don't think he is making the splash Matt Smith did in his early episodes with Karen Gillian and her younger cousin.

Well, it's looking almost certain that it will be stormy and rainy for the Packers and Vikings tonight. Mud Bowl at Lambeau!

Capaldi is a considerable actor, but I'm not sure that he's being well served by the writers, who seem to be trying to bring back some of the annoyed-geezer character of William Hartnell, with a dash of Colin Baker's bad temper. And the stories, of course, are generally deeply silly. For a long, long time the show has worked best in comic mode, like Third Rock or Futurama. When it tries to be serious, it generally tips over into bombast or bathos.
