Some friend of a friend of a friend on FB posted this today. They have an estate sale and need to sell some guitars. I suggested that instead of "Any offers accepted" they may want to know what they are worth. I have no idea but I thought some here might. I'm not sure what some of these are and I'm guessing the guy doesn't either. So any guesses on the ones the you do know would be appreciated.

Not to be a turd, Tramp, but the answer depends upon what kind of shape the guitars are in.

Also given the price some of them would command in decent shape, the sellers may as well pony up and get a blue book to look at.

I understand that. Even list price might help.

I didn't know Sears made lap steel guitars.

Off the top of my head I'd say the Gibsons, Larrivees, and Martin will average about $1200 apiece. Nothing extraordinary but good Gibsons nonetheless. The rest will average a couple hundred apiece. I don't know what the projects consist of so it's impossible to say.

Well the Larrivees listed for around $800 and $950 or so respectively back in 2003. They list for over $1700 now. Again, hard to say what they could get without pics. The Les Paul Studio is a first year of production if it is in fact a 1982. It's also from the Norlin era, which some folks would shy away from, and some folks not! Les Paul Studios are a lot better these days for a host of reasons, in this asshole Gibson lover's opinion. Not very helpful, is it?

I tried to find an '82 Studio for sale to see what folks were asking. I found an '83 which looks to be in really good condition for $1700. The guy allegedly has a note from Gruhn's saying they'd ask $1750 to $2000.
Now if you really wanted to be a pal, you'd find me somebody who posted, "I have this old guitar from 1959. It's kind of sunbursty and it has Gibson on the headstock. You know anyone who would want it?"

I've visited two Gibson, older 12 string guitar sellers from eBay to check out the instruments. They were both in need of hundreds of pounds worth of care and attention. The tops were thin and bowed. I passed and they sold very cheap. Watching eBay auctions might give the owner some idea of what other things sell for.

I'll add to this list as I can. Condition is everything. Quick Ebay search results and only semi reliable. None of these prices are correct until checked against verified condition, year, model values. 1966 Gibson 2-12 12 string, need to know if this is a B-25 12 $800-$1000 or a B-45 12 $1500-$2200 1982 Gibson Let Paul Studio, $600-$800 1983 Gibson Flying -V Heritage Korina, no info 2003 Larivee' D03 Acoustic, $1000 2003 Larivee' D03R Acoustic/Electric, $1300 2007 Martin 000-28EC Eric Clayton Signature, $3000-$4000 What signature number is it? 1997 Peavy Eddie Van Halen Wolfgang, $2200 Peavy Bass, Model please? If it is a early one, ie boat anchor, just burn it. Rickenbacher Lap Steel, $400-$1500, what year? Sears - Roebuck Lap Steel, what year? $200-$500 Fender Strat project, not enough info. Gibson/Epihone project, not enough info.

Go buy an issue of Vintage Guitar and check the many adds for those models to get an idea. Check Elderly, Gruhn and Walter Carter's sites for those guitars. Honestly and conservatively evaluate their condition and then expect to get less than the prices you find. The Clapton, not Clayton, 000-28 will be more likely in the $2500 range. I see them at Elderly for that regularly. They have a D-03 Larrivee listed now for around $800. I have seen Flying V Korinas from that era going for $2000--6000, but it depends on what it is. Condition, as Marty said, is everything. Any way to get someone reputable to look them over and give an estimate of value? It will cost a few bucks, but it is the best way to find out.

Yes, get a reputable local vintage dealer to appraise them, PAY for the appraisal, otherwise the dealer need only tell you what he would be willing to pay you for them, not what he would sell them for.

My 2003 Vintage Guitar Price Guide concurs with Marty's prices pretty closely. (even though it's 2003). A 1983 Flying V Korina Heritage V is listed from $1,500 to $3,000 depending on color (Black lowest. natural highest).
The price guide cost me $20 in 2003. There's an edition every year. Good pictures. Detailed info on all manufacturers and models. Value by year. Low and high value.

Those Clapton Signature 000-28Cs are lovely guitars. 12 fret, get that extra oomph from the placement of the bridge. One of the nicest Martins I've ever played.

The Clapton signature models are not 12 fret guitars. I know because I used to own one. They are 14 fret, standard fingerboard length, 000 guitars. The bridge placement is also standard position. Are you thinking of the Norman Blake model?

The lap steel is a Richenbacher rather than a Rickenbacker, correct? Bacher it's better than backer. Have your friend measure the width of the pickup (the big shiny thing the strings go through, and I'm not trying to be insulting). It should be either 1 1/2" or 1 1/4" - wider is better. Also, what is the body shaped like? Guitar-ish, trapezoid-ish, like frying pan? Is the body metal, bakelite or wood? Pics would be great. I may be in the market for one of these, and I would be glad to help establish fair value. My friend Rick Aiello's website might help in identification (check out the pre-war and post-war Rickys in the museum pages, as well as the Ricky ID pages) www.horseshoemagnets.com/_sgg/m6_1.htm

Depending upon condition and originality the Gibson flying V korina is likely the most expensive piece by a fair bit. I'd get it appraised. Could very well be a 6-7K guitar

The Marten and the Flying V are the cream of that crop. Your friend should put them on consignment some where like Elderly.
