It's about the same age as mine, it's the same body style and specs, same cutaway. Less exotic woods, but it should still be a glorious sounding guitar with tons of overtones and sustain. Extra points for it being built in Hawaii.
Seems like a more than fair price to me. Used Goodalls at the Podeo have surprised me for how high they are. My instrument may actually be worth more than I paid for it, although because I have gigged so long with it, it has more dings and scratches than a lot of babied guitars. Nothing really noticeable, but little character marks here and there. The clear pick guard on mine, held up to a light at the right angle, reveals a LOT of pick marks, for instance. That's why it's there, I say.

Major Minor -
I would sell you my Goodall Grand Concert Honduran Rosewood back and side, curly maple binding, with Italian Spruce top, with cutaway and pure mini pickup for $3800. Bill played this guitar when it was very young. I think that the guitar is in good to excellent condition. I have had the frets leveled and the action is very low (my fretting hand is wimpy!!) There is a pure western mini pickup installed. If you are willing to pay shipping back and forth, I will send it to you to try out. David

Thanks David - I'm not looking to buy a high end acoustic unless it has P90's and a Bigsby Just surprised to see an older Goodall go by on my favorite electric guitar shopping site. I think that guitar linked above, and yours and Bill's are one of the most aesthetically beautiful acoustic guitars ever made.

I came sooooo close to ordering a Goodall CJ redwood top honduran b/s about 12 years ago. Soooooooooooo close. But I choked on the price. **choke**choke**
Then one day Chicago Bob and I met Scott in Evanston, IL one Saturday at Guitar Works and then Flynn Brothers guitar stores. And after plundering many, many, many very nice guitars, I stumbled on a beat-up old 1957 resurrected Gibson J50, . . . , and the rest is history.
But I still have a soft spot for the one that got away.

Marshall - do you remember that you almost sold me a Goodall back in the day?
I was thinking the other day that this group used to buy and sell and lust after guitars a lot more when we first started getting together but that's really cooled off. I wondered if that was just an emerging internet phenomena that has run it's course, or the recession knocked the steam out of us.

I wondered if that was just an emerging internet phenomena that has run it's course, or the recession knocked the steam out of us. I've wondered a bit too. For me my interest in playing hasn't dimmed a bit. And I'll admit that having the Harmony in the house has upped my playing time substantially from what was already a lot of playing. But I've stopped dreaming about different guitars for now. In part, I suppose, because I can't afford them anyway and looking only hurts. But in large part it's also coming to terms with the reality that a good player on a typical guitar beats the ever loving shit out of a lousy player playing a first class guitar. Not even a contest. The preponderance of lore that floats around the internet about what makes for a good guitar is 99% bullshit and 1% gospel truth. So, that in mind, I just try to learn to make what I've got sound as good as I can make it. That, and guitars simply don't get better to my ear than the ones I've got.

I have to stifle my urge to acquire more instruments--I have more than I can play right now (including a half-dozen absolutely first-rate instruments), I'm 70 years old, and if anything I should be thinking about deacquisitioning a few that spend way too much time in their cases. That said, I'm sorely tempted to add a Kennedy, a National M-1, and a Deering Vega Senator 6 to the tribe. But only if I could sell off at least four underplayed guitars and were sure that I would still be playing out enough to justify more pro-level instruments.

I wondered if that was just an emerging internet phenomena that has run it's course, or the recession knocked the steam out of us. Now that you mention it, I do remember our triste about that guitar. I really think the recession took the wind out of a lot of boomer's sails (sales?). The shock of seeing your nest egg's value cut in half, and job security (which we had been let to believe there would be no more recessions) disappear, suddenly put the end-of-times (retirement? old folks home?) in closer proximity. So, that segment of the buying population just decided to stop buying secondary things. The economy and the nest-eggs have rebounded reasonably well. But the boomers are probably a little gun-shy now and less likely to spend the extra coin for something special (that is not all that much better than what they already have).

I think Marshall has it right, the recession made us old folks kind of gun-shy about spending on optional things. I think John's right too that a good player on a mediocre guitar beats a bad player on a great guitar anytime. The 4 guitars I have, at my level playing, are just as good as any others I've played so I don't feel a need to change. No one has ever questioned the sound of my guitars. They get complements so they're good enough and they're paid for.

I played a Martin M-36 yesterday at Hanover Strings, just off the Dartmouth campus. $2499. Cheaper by $200 than Sweetwater. Best guitar I've heard in that price range.Neck was a touch too hefty for my tastes and I'm favoring smaller guitars these days, but it is a sweet one.
