So we did dinner and a couple of bars last night on the Urban Bourbon Trail. Had a flight of bourbon at one place, a fancy cocktail at dinner, and a nightcap at the historic and pricey Seelbach Hotel. Verdict for all three of us is that the inexpensive but hard to find Wellers beat out pricier choices like Angels Envy, Larceny, and Buffalo Trace. Today we had a great tour at Woodford Reserve and a good lunch and tour of Buffalo Trace where they make many bourbons like Pappy Van Winkle, Ancient Age, Blantons, and W?L. Wellers. tonight we dine at another bourbon bar, Doc Crows. Tomorrow off to the races at Churchill Downs after we find a liquor store that has Wellers

I will keep an eye peeled and focused for Wellers.
Meanwhile, while checking my local whiskey trail for any incoming Buffalo Trace, one of the managers came out to see what this fellow was complaining about. He was very understanding and had excellent people skills (I was calmed down and in a happy place within minutes). He led me over to a bourbon they had just gotten in that was on a promotion sale for $18 and suggested I give it a try as he thought it was quite good, Bulleit bourbon. The price was right and I was dry, so I took a bottle home. I liked it a lot, as well if not better than any of the ones I have brought home. And it was half the price of most of them.
Next day, I called Happy Harry's and asked if Bulleit was still on sale for $18. It was, so I returned and came home with a case of it.

There sure are a lot of brown-likker folks on this forum.

A case of bourbon might seem like quite a bit, but, I have learned that if you find something you like and the price is right, buy a bunch of it. I learned that just last summer in Vinton when I was shopping with Jeff and watched as he wheeled a thirty-gallon drum of Sam's Choice cooking sherry out of the Vinton Sam's Club. I was, frankly, flabbergasted.
"A thirty-gallon barrel of cooking sherry, what's up with that?"
"Paul, let me tell you something, if you find something you like and if the price is right, buy a bunch of it. And I really like cooking sherry and I'm saving $3.40 over buying it in those five gallon pails like I used to."
Well, that impressed me. If a guy with Jeff's bucks will think ahead and spend big to save bigger, even if it's only a couple bucks, well, maybe that's how he got his bucks.
I did wonder..."Say, Jeff. How you going to be getting that thirty-gallon drum of cooking Sherry back to Nebraska on your bike?"
"I'm staying here a couple extra days, little buddy. Ain't going to be any bringing back."

Finding Weller's is always harder than paying for it.

Bulleit is $30 most places. Great deal. I had a Russell's Reserve last night that I liked. I think that is Wild Turkey's upscale brand

If I ever run into Wellers, I'm filling the trunk.

Good point. I will have to do some figuring on this.

So Weller's is now exotic and hard to find? When we were in grad school, Old Weller 107 was all over the place. Not as affordable as Old Rip Van Winkle high-proof, but common enough that more than one bottle passed through our cupboard. (After I discovered cask-strength single-malt, I quit buying bourbon.)

Love the 107 but the 107 and the 12 year are impossible to find. We did buy two handles of the Special Reserve--their cheaper offering at a store near Churchill Downs. Bet $15 and won $90 on the first two races and struck out until the ninth when Calvin Borel rode a fantastic stretch duel and won me another $25 on a $10 bet
